America’s Greatest Need – Repentance?

The greatest need in America is faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and repentance.  Christ “is the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6) to get back to the Father.   To hope for political processes to save America only is hopeless!  If we will ask, He will help us in our political processes, but ultimately our hope is in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and repentance from all of our sins.  Repentance under the Lord can be expressed simply as “A turning away from evil and turning back to God.”  In this endeavor there is not only a change of mind but a change of heart and actions. It is only thorough our faith in Him and repentance can we be the full recipients of His infinite atonement and have eternal life — life with God here and hereafter.  Can you see why this is this the greatest need for American?

How Does Faith and Repentance Impact America?

Most do not understand that the book that shaped this nation – including the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution – more than any other is the Bible. The founders of this nation had the wisdom to not establish a state church, but to have the Bible as a moral basis. This nation’s principles of law and order are founded upon a Judeo-Christian morality.

2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

We may feel this scripture only applies to the old Holy Land. However, as early as 1630, when the Puritans crossed the Atlantic they admonished the following generations to maintain a covenant relationship with the Lord.  Our Founding Fathers believed, as did the colonists, that if America was to succeed the people must keep the covenant with God and with each other. If they failed to keep this covenant it would “cause Him to withdraw His present help.” (Puritan – John Winthrop)

President George Washington understood the importance of this covenant and he implemented 2 Chronicles 7:14 in our new nation, invoking its enormous benefits, and great blessings came to our founding fathers and mothers following.

America is a “Promised Land”

The scriptures tell us of two “Promised Lands” — one in the old world and one in the new.  We further understand the identity from the scriptures that America is the Promised Land prophesied by Isaiah to be an “ensign to the nations” in the latter-days (Isaiah 11:12).

In 1798, John Adams, our second president, said in an address to the Militia of Massachusetts, “Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.  It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other.”  How far we have declined as a nation in morality since.

Noah Webster, the founding father of “American Scholarship and Education” and the author of the best dictionary ever compiled, 1828 American Dictionary of the English Language, set the tone for this nation in 1783-85 with his, The American Spelling Book, the famous “blue-backed speller.”  It set a publishing record unlikely to be equaled by any school text in America.

Over a period of one hundred years more than one hundred million copies were worn out by Americans as they learned their letters, their morality, and their patriotism for this new nation raised up by God to be that “ensign” to the world in the end time scenario.

Webster affirmed that, “God’s word, contained in the Bible, has furnished all necessary rules to direct our conduct.”  He, “affirmed that the principles of republican government have their origin in the Scriptures,” and he sought to build an educational system embodying “a love of virtue, patriotism, and religion.”

“In my view,  Christian theology is most important and one of the first matters in which all children, under a free government, ought to be instructed… When I speak of the Christian religion as the basis of government, I do not mean an ecclesiastical establishment, a creed, or rites, forms, and ceremonies, or any compulsion of conscience. I am referring to primitive Christianity in its simplicity as taught by Christ and His apostles, consisting in a belief in the being, perfections, and moral government of God; in the revelation of His will to men, as their supreme rule of action; in man’s accountability to God for his conduct in this life; and in the indispensable obligation of all men to yield entire obedience to God’s commands in the moral law and in the Gospel.”

And as Webster further makes the important point that we are a constitutional republic – not a democracy.

Where is the United States Today in Keeping the Covenant?

Regarding where we are today in enormous contrast to where we were when this nation was born, and most conservatives believe we are enormously better off with Trump than we were with the Obama administration. In all the rhetoric in these two Wikipedia articles we see nothing of the need for America to heed the profound message of 2 Chronicles 7:14 to “heal” our “land!”

As an example of the decline in morality, in 1939, the movie “Gone with the Wind” was held up for three months because of the word “damn” being used before it was finally approved.  Now the media is full of filth. Pornography is epidemic and the majority of Americans believe it is okay to watch porn.  Now we are protecting the rights of the lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender folks and disregarding the lives of unborn children, as if the morality of it all doesn’t matter.  As someone perhaps, not really jokingly said, “If God doesn’t do something soon, He owes an apology to Sodom and Gomorraha.”

The percentage of Christians is higher in Russia than in America.  A recent poll shows 93% of leading American scientists are atheists or non-believers and consider the Bible as a myth.  We’ve prohibited public prayer in many places and the reading of the Ten  Commandments is considered taboo as it may offend someone.  Here are just a few examples to show how far we have drifted in morality from being a Bible based nation:

The People of the World Today
Anti-Christ in their attitudes
Proud, know it all
Self-centered, seeking games and entertainment
Follow the lusts of the flesh
Rich put down the poor
Change the traditional family any way you want it to be for your selfish purposes

True Disciples of Christ
Valiant in living a Christ-like-life
Humble, wanting to Learn Truth
Christ-centered, seeking to serve Father’s children
Pure in heart shall see God
Meek shall inherit the earth
The family is the most important unit in time and in eternity and is sacred

We could list many more, but you get the idea. Satan is bringing about a great division in this “Promised Land” of America, because he knows the importance of the New Jerusalem and the ideal Zion society that will be prepared to meet the Savior – the Bride prepared to meet the Bridegroom.

The Prophecies Regarding America Are Clear

For behold, this is a land which is choice above all other lands; wherefore he that doth possess it shall serve God or shall be swept off; for it is the everlasting decree of God… Behold, this is a choice land, and… it shall be free from bondage, and from captivity, and from all other nations under heaven, if they will but serve the God of the land, who is Jesus Christ… Book of Mormon (Ether 2:10, 12)

In as much as ye shall keep my commandments, ye shall prosper in the land? And again it is said that: Inasmuch as ye will not keep my commandments ye shall be cut off from the presence of the Lord. Book of Mormon (Alma 9:13)

Listen to the voice of Jesus Christ, your Redeemer, the Great I Am, whose arm of mercy hath atoned for your sins; Who will gather his people even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, even as many as will hearken to my voice and humble themselves before me, and call upon me in mighty prayer. (Doctrine and Covenants 29:1-2)

The grand key for what is the greatest need in America is to totally trust in and have faith in the God of this land, who is Jesus Christ; to repent of all our sins – to have no private ones.  We need to get out of “Babylon the great,” which shall fall – Bible: (Revelations 17:5; 18:2);  and to not even have one toe in her abominations.  Choose to be Christ centered.

We Have His Promise

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Bible: (Matt. 11:28-30)

The promise is that in the end time the righteous need not fear: Book of Mormon (1 Nephi 22:22) And perfect love casteth out fear: Bible (1 John 4:18).

Book of Mormon: (1 Nephi 22:17) Wherefore, he will preserve the righteous by his power, even if it so be that the fulness of his wrath must come, and the righteous be preserved, even unto the destruction of their enemies by fire. Wherefore, the righteous need not fear; for thus saith the prophet, they shall be saved, even if it so be as by fire.  25 And he gathereth his children from the four quarters of the earth; and he numbereth his sheep, and they know him; and there shall be one fold and one shepherd; and he shall feed his sheep, and in him they shall find pasture.  26 And because of the righteousness of his people, Satan has no power; wherefore, he cannot be loosed for the space of many years; for he hath no power over the hearts of the people, for they dwell in righteousness, and the Holy One of Israel reigneth. (The great millennial epoch)

What is the Greatest Need in America Today?

For this nation be to healed, it is vital that we return to our founding fathers understanding of the covenant that was place on this land and apply the process of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and repentance from all our sins, turning away from evil, and turn our hearts to God by changing our minds, our hearts and our actions.

Let us individually fulfill this greatest need that America has and center our lives on the God of this land, Jesus the Christ, that we may enjoy His healing power and prepare for His glorious reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords – repenting of every sin and having total faith in Him, who will redeem us.  He is coming, and as we come unto Him we can be part of the greatest society ever with our loved ones, and let us share His glorious gospel message with others.  OUR CHOICE! Pray and hearken to His voice.
