Suicide Epidemic Utah

Suicide is an epidemic. It has doubled in the USA in the last 15 years and has now increased to 8% per year. Utah is the 5th in the nation in deaths by suicide.  I was surprised to learn that the ratio of male/female suicide deaths is 4/1.  Men want to be macho and not talk about there problems.

I went to a SUICIDE prevention stake fireside last Sunday evening (28 April 2019).  Suicide is:
·       The leading cause of death in the Rocky Mountains for ages 10-24
·       The second leading cause of death in the US for ages 10-24
·       The third leading cause of death in the world for ages 10-24

Do you know where suicide victims go when they die?

Suicide counselors will not tell you where suicide victims go; they leave it to God to judge.  But, unfortunately, their counseling is not slowing down the rate. We need to know; people need to know where suicide victims go!  Then we can reach out to them in loving ways and help them know suicide is not the way to go.  SUICIDE will not end your problems; it will make things worse!

True Suicide Stories

I will share some true stories that will touch your soul.  All souls are precious to our loving Heavenly Father.  If we can save one soul from suicide, we should do it.  I write this to help.

Dr. Joyce Brown’s Experience

Our dear friend, Dr. Joyce Brown was suicidal. She died from a dental infection. She saw how bad it was for suicide victims and promised the Lord she would tell everyone she could if she could come back.  She was to tell her dentist to extract a “gold-crown” tooth, and it would cure her infection.  He did, and to his surprise he found a horribly infected tooth, which had caused her death.

Joyce Brown drove all the way up from Mesquite, NV, to be at the fireside Sunday evening, and she had to hire a driver, because she has lost her sight. I was able to introduce her to our stake presidency, and we had a great visit with our wonderful Bishop Owens, who is both a counselor and a member of the state legislature.  He shared how the state is doing what they can to stop suicides.

Dr. Brown has written a book about her incredible experience, God’s Heavenly Answers; Near-Death Experience Revealed and has received hundreds of letters from suicidal folks thanking her for saving their lives.  You can get her book at the above link or you can get a copy from me. She has a suicide hotline, 1-800-734-3439, and her line is hot with calls!  She has given hundreds of her books away, so you can help with the cause as well by donating on her web site.

Howard Storm’s Experience

I share the following experience of Howard Storm from my book. He was an atheist, and then had a near-death experience. I suggest you read his book, My Descent Into Death and the Message of Love that Brought Me Back.  This experience totally changed his life.

He died from complications when his duodenum perforated — opening a hole allowing the hydrochloric acid in his stomach to leak into his abdominal cavity resulting in ever increasing and searing pain until he passed through the veil of death.

There his spirit was in indescribable darkness with other spirits tormenting him. He says, “There was a profound sense of timelessness… A terrible sense of dread was growing within me. This experience was too real… it was Hell… and it was more horrible than anything I could possibly have imagined.” Before he had thought that life was every man for himself — survival of the fittest — and he was about building his ego. He thought that when you died that was it — nothing, and he found something very different.

He heard a voice that sounded like his voice saying, “Pray to God.” He remembered thinking, “Why? What a stupid idea… I don’t believe in God.” He heard this three times. From his childhood Sunday school experiences he tried reciting the 23rd Psalms, the Star Spangled Banner, the Lord’s Prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance, and God Bless America and whatever phrases came to mind. The tormenting increased as the evil spirits tormenting him hated to see him trying to pray.

Then, again, from his childhood he heard his voice singing full of innocence, trust, and hope, “Jesus loves me…” He said, “I desperately needed someone to love me, someone to know I was alive. A ray of hope began to dawn in me, a belief that there really was something greater out there. For the first time in my adult life I wanted it to be true that Jesus loved me. I didn’t know how to express what I wanted and needed, but with every bit of my last ounce of strength, I yelled out into the darkness, ‘Jesus, save me.’ I yelled that from the core of my being with all the energy I had left. I have never meant anything more strongly in my life.”

And then, like the thousands if not millions of others who have had NDEs from all parts of the world, he met the Savior of mankind and felt of His infinite and profound love.

Trials and Challenges

Suicidal folks need to know that taking their lives will not end their problems and take them to a better place.  In the Book of Mormon, Amulek said:
…if we do not improve our time while in this life, then cometh the night of darkness… when ye are brought to that awful crisis [death] …that same spirit which doth possess your bodies at the time that ye go out of this life, that same spirit will have power to possess your body in that eternal world. (Alma 34:33-34)

As the Savior has taught us, let us use our lives to “lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven…” Matt. 6:20.  Trials and challenges in life can help us to grow.  From them we can often learn great lessons.

When Joseph Smith was incarcerated in the Liberty Jail on false charges in horrible circumstances for him and for the saints, he cried out to the Lord, “How long shall thy hand be stayed, and thine eye, yea thy pure eye, behold from the eternal heavens the wrongs of thy people and thy servants…?” Then the Lord replied, “My son, peace be unto thy soul, thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment…  Thou art not yet as Job;… The Son of Man hath descended below them all.  Art thou greater than he?… if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high…” (Doctrine and Covenants sections 121 and 122)

The Lord never gives us more than we can handle (1 Corinthians 10:13), and all of life’s experiences can be for our growth, if we will but look at them from an eternal perspective.  Many blame God for the evil in the world not knowing it is man’s inhumanity to man.  Chapter 2 of my book deals with this question of, “Why evil?” in detail.

The Healing Balm of the Infinite Atonement

I offer my book for free to those who have lost faith, have addictions, are suicidal, or want to know of the Lord’s love and the healing balm of the infinite atonement.  If they will read it, I will gladly sign a copy especially for them.  For me, we live in the most exciting time in the history of the Earth, and I see God’s love manifest in every direction as we see the preparations for His Glorious Second Coming.  The millennials like to know the truth.  In my book, I provide it showing a grand harmony between true science and true religion and showing God’s love.  I know God loves us, and those who are suicidal critically need to know that and feel that from us.

Gratitude For The Resurrection of Our Savior

Is there a more important event in the history of the Earth than the resurrection of our Lord and Savior?

In speaking of the atonement of Jesus Christ, we often hear:

  • In prayers
  • In testimonies
  • In General Conference

“I am grateful for the atoning sacrifice of our Savior,” or “We are grateful for Thy atoning sacrifice.”  Often, His glorious resurrection is not mentioned or included in our gratitude for His infinite atonement.  Most Christians look to His suffering  on the cross to pay for their sins, as they believe in Him.

Book of Mormon Conference Review – April 2019

The Book of Mormon Evidence Conference was a smashing success (11-13 April 2019) – showing the Book of Mormon to be a Hebrew text and proving its validity with strong Jewish traditions.

Joseph Smith prophesied that the world would prove him a prophet.  We are there.  The millennials want proof and to know what is true; we have it for them.

I have never had so many sincere complements on a presentation that I have given. I offered proof of where the Book of Mormon took place and why it is very important for America to wake up and REPENT – to come to the God of this land, who is Jesus the Christ!  The backgroud for my address came from an article I have written.

Two of the conference speakers were Jewish converts.  I received permission from Robert Kay, who is a Cohen descendent and well learned in the traditions of the Jews, to tell about his conversion story and his contributions pertaining to Hebraisms in the Book of Mormon.

I am reading again his version of the Book of Mormon showing the Hebraisms and how it profoundly ties to the Adamic language as well as to Hebrew culture.  LDS Living published an article showing my research on the Adamic language.

Book of Mormon Midrash

Most people don’t know what a Hebrew Midrash is:  The Torah (the five books of Moses) is explained in great detail by the Tabbies in the Talmud.  In the Talmud they often uses a Midrash to show the significance and implications of meaning to a particular verse of scripture.

At the conference I was greatly impressed to learn that Nephi, Jacob, and Abinadi were doing Hebrew Midrashs on the scriptures they were quoting from Isaiah and Zenos.  In particular, Nephi is doing a Midrash on Isaiah 48 and 49 (1 Nephi 20 and 21) in 1 Nephi 22 – showing its relevance for our day.  This chapter has been one of my favorites over the years; now it has even greater meaning.  In addition, Nephi is doing a Midrash on Isaiah chapters 2-14 (compare 2 Nephi 12-24) just after he quotes them.  His Midrash follows in 2 Nephi 25-29.

Jacob is doing a Midrash on Zeno’s allegory as he shares it and his comments in Jacob 4-6.  I have a blog article showing the significance of this allegory: Some of Zenos’s writings were found in 1906.

Abinadi is testifying of the atonement of Christ in King Noah’s court as he does a Midrash on Isaiah 53 before he was martyred.  See Mosiah chapters 14-16.  Abinadi’s testimony converted Alma.  The impact of the conversions of Alma and his son, Alma the younger, have impacted millions of lives in bringing them to Christ.

Some of the protagonists say that Joseph copied scriptures from the Bible into the Book of Mormon.  At the conference, this was proven not true.  There are 433 verses of Isaiah in the Book of Mormon and over half of them are significantly different, and those differences often reflect the Hebraisms.

The historical documentation around the coming forth of the Book of Mormon proves its divinity.  It was translated in approximately 65 days and the printing was a miracle also.

In contrast, it took the 51 King James scholars seven years to pull together the KJV of the Bible, then 76 % of what they used was William Tyndale’s translation.

Book of Mormon Museum

Jonathan Neville gave three great presentations at the conference and shared their grand plan to put a Book of Mormon museum in Washington D.C. with scriptures on the face of the museum showing that, “The Book of Mormon is a sacred book of ancient scripture that is evidence of God’s love for all people of the world.”

Book of Jasher

At the conference, I learned from David Hocking that the Book of Jasher, which is referenced in the Bible but not included, was found in Europe in Hebrew and translated into English in 1840 – ten years after the Book of Mormon was published.  The Book of Jasher has 91 chapters and covers from Adam down to Joshua.  Like the Bible, the Book of Mormon references contents of the Book of Jasher.  This itself shows direct evidence of the validity of the Book of Mormon.

David Hocking and Rod Meldrum are the editors of the newly published Annotated Book of Mormon, which sold 5,000 copies of the first printing last Fall.  They have printed 20 thousand more and they are nearly gone.  Rod has added quotes from the prophets and pictures of likely places for the geography.  I have read it and believe it is one the best books on the planet to build faith in the Lord and to show that America is the Promised Land spoken of in the Book of Mormon and prophesied of in the Bible.

Timothy Ballard Address

The capstone talk of the conference was Timothy Ballard’s.  Tim has probably done more than any other human on the planet to stop the horrible human trafficking problem.  He has consulted with President Trump on this problem, been on the Glen Beck show, written the bestselling book, The American Covenant, and has saved a large number of children along with arresting many of those involved with this heinous sin.  One of the amazing arrests of 15 perpetrators of child pedophelia and the saving of 125 children in that operation was so significant that Columbia Pictures is going to make a movie of it that should be out this November, “The Sounds of Freedom.”

Tim also shared a synopsis of his bestselling book, The Lincoln Hypothesis, showing how the Book of Mormon changed Lincoln’s life and religious freedom in this country.  It is an amazing story and a story everyone should know.

It is so exciting to see the Lord’s hand in sharing the gospel around the world and to be a part of it.  The best thing we can do is to “learn of me…” (Matt. 11: 28-30) “find rest unto your souls.” Live and share His glorious message of LOVE.

The Bible & The Land of Liberty

The Bible had more influence on making America (USA) a land of liberty than any other book. In fact, KJV Bible has had more influence for good in the world than any other book ever written.

Where are we now with the Bible and prayer being rejected by our government and in schools?  Moral decay is evident and the millennials are turning into non-believers at a rate of one percent a year with now one-third of them in that category.  The attitude is trust in science and technology to solve our problems and not trust in God.

The Land of Liberty

The Bible was the moral code behind the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.  In support of that moral code Noah Webster’s, The American Spelling Book of 1783 is sprinkled with quotes from the Bible.  It set a publishing record with one hundred million copies being printed over a hundred year period.  It was a major influence in setting a moral code for the nation along with the KJV Bible.

Noah Webster believed, “God’s word, contained in the Bible, has furnished all necessary rules to direct our conduct.”  He further stated, “In my view, the Christian religion is the most important and one of the first things in which all children, under a free government, ought to be instructed…  I mean primitive Christianity in its simplicity as taught by Christ and His apostles… in the revelation of His will to men… in man’s accountability to God for his conduct in this life; and in the indispensable obligation of all men to yield entire obedience to God’s commands in the moral law and in the Gospel.”

Early on, citizens studied and highly valued their bibles.  For instance, Private Walter G. Jones had two holes all the way through his KJV Bible saving his life during the Civil War.  Almost all the soldiers on both sides of the conflict had KJV Bibles in their haversacks, and there are many more stories where soldiers’ lives were saved when bullets hit their Bibles.

This Promised Land

In Chapter 23 of my book “It’s About Time”,  I fully explain how his “Promised Land” was raised up by the Lord for the restoration of the fullness of the gospel in preparation for His Glorious Second Coming, and of the great importance of this Gentile nation to come to the God of this land, who is Jesus the Christ.

We Were A Christian Nation

Because the people of this nation have in large measure, turned their backs on the God of this Promised Land. We face a major purging time if we don’t repent. In a recent survey, ninety-three percent of the leading American scientists believed the Bible is a myth and, more and more of the world as well, trust in science rather than God.  My book, It’s About Time, is a counter attack on this secular satanic encroachments on Christianity and to help bring about faith in Christ.  True science and true religion must harmonize, or they are not true!

There are two fascinating prophecies by Joseph in Egypt and by Nephi, son of Lehi, that in the last days people will disbelieve the Bible. However, The Book of Mormon will prove the bible true (2 Nephi 3:11; 1 Nephi 13:38-41).  This is one of the main messages of my book — to show the grand harmony between science and religion.

In my presentation at the Firm Foundation Expo on April 11th, 2019, I prove from God’s word and from logic, that America is not only the “Promised Land” but why it’s so important to know where the Book of Mormon took place.

In this “Promised Land” a bride will be prepared to meet the Bridegroom. If we will truly come to Christ and repent of all our sins, it will be our great blessing to be part of that holy gathering.  Let us be pure in heart; live the Law of Love; be a Zion people that we may be part of the Bride to meet the Bridegroom.

What Time Is It?

How many times have you asked, “What time is it?”

Einstein is reported as saying, “If you ask me what time it is, I will tell you, but if you ask me what is time, I cannot!”  If he didn’t say it, he should have!

Time, as we think of it flowing throughout the universe is a metaphysical concept – abstract – an idea in our minds.

Some Fun With Time and Some Mind Benders

  1. Doc says, “Joe, I got some bad news for you. You’ve got six months to live.” Joe says, “Six months? Doc, I can’t pay your bill in six months, I can’t do it!” Doc says, “OK, I give you a year…”
  2. Chinese kid was born before the due date. Parents named him Sudden Lee.
Did you hear about that guy who fell into the infinity pool? Yeah… it took him forever to get out.
  3. The future, the present and the past were arrested and sentenced, and things got tense.
  4. Moses had the first tablet that could connect to the cloud.
  5. Why do the French eat snails? They don’t like fast food.
  6. Here is one for you; a twelve hour stopped clock is perfect twice a day!  And if you could make it go backwards infinitely fast, it would always read the correct time!
  7. True story: I noticed by smart phone was receiving responses to my text messages 4 minutes before I sent them out.  Being a time guy, I asked, “How could this be?”  My wife and I got a good laugh about why this might be: “mind readers!”  I discovered my phone was in manual mode and had gained 4 minutes since I bought it over a year ago.  I fixed it!  Cell towers are synchronized to GPS, so now I am with you; not a head of you!
  8. Another true story: My wife and I celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary in Guam on the 20th of February, 1981.  I had been invited to give a talk in New Delhi about precise time and frequency distribution systems; the UN had paid for my ticket, and I obtained a $50 coupon to buy a second ticket for Edna.  So we arranged that after the conference, we would travel on to Guam to celebrate the 20th; we had a great time in Guam.  We got on the plane that evening and arrived in Hawaii the next morning, and it was the 20th of February all over again.  Two anniversaries in a row; can’t beat that.  Who but a time-nut would have planned that so?  A little time warp due to our spinning earth and our mixed up timing system.  I have a solution for that in my book: It’s About Time.

What is TIME?

Man’s time is not time; it is time-interval – the accumulation of time-intervals, like a second, a minute, an hour, a season, a calendar, a span from some origin or point in time (like the birth of Christ). We measure time in our minds.  A lot of people think time seems to be going faster.

For example, time can feel slow or “stand still” when you are waiting for a loved one to come out of surgery or when you are waiting for a response after a job interview.  Days can seem long when you are lonely or sad.

On the other hand, we seem to lose track of time when we are busy. “Time flies” when you are having fun, actively engaged in an event or circumstance that is fulfilling or when you are happy.  Vacations seem all too short.

Time seems to collapse (time warp) when you meet an old friend that you have not seen in 25 years. You may feel like it was just yesterday that you were together.

Nothing demonstrates the flawed notion of time better than aging. A young person may think that 30 is over the hill. A 50 year old may feel am 80 year old is ready to die.  And a 70 year old looks in the mirror and can’t believe what they see because inside they feel like a 20 year old.  I am 82 years young, and feel a lot of life is ahead of me — its exciting!

Making some sense of “Time” on this planet

One of the best definition of time that I know of is from my good friend, Prof. Chauncey Riddle, “Time seems to be the possibility of change.”

The Allan variance is the optimum estimator of change in the rate of an ideal atomic clock. http://itsabouttimebook.com/allan-variance-in-laymans-terms/  We cannot measure time, since it is metaphysical, but we can measure time interval more precisely than anything else.

The four dimensions of Einstein’s theory (space and time) are mortal constraints.  Einstein includes man’s time in his relativity equations, and his theory makes GPS work as well as it does.  We contracted with Professor Neil Ashby to develop the relativity equations for GPS.

We also have done a Unified Field Theory experiment showing evidence of a fifth dimension, which we call the eternity domain.  Man’s time is not a constraint in this domain, and this is where God and His angels do their work, and it is where we couple when we pray. The infinite atonement of our Lord and Savior is operative from this eternity domain and covers us in our mortal journey.

God’s Time is Eternal

Remember, God is without constraint. God’s time is eternal. It has no beginning and no end.  God’s TIME has its full purpose in bringing “to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.”  (Moses 1:39)  Christ overcame death and hell – providing resurrection for all and eternal life – life with God and life like God – for all who will believe in Him and accept of His glorious gospel message.  How blessed we are to have the fullness thereof.  Let us live it and share it making the best use of time that we may enjoy eternity.

Healing in His Wings

Do You Know There Is A Loving God?

In the ironies of God we see healings and answers to prayers among the believers, but the non-believers miss out.  Science has now proven that the “relaxation response” couples us to the Divine and brings about healing as God designed.  C. S. Lewis, when he was going through his own apostasy from Christianity, said the poem of Lucretius shared his feelings:

Had God designed the world,
it would not be
A world so frail and faulty as we see.

Then later Lewis poignantly stated that if you “Try to exclude the possibility of suffering which the order of nature and the existence of free wills involve . . . you find that you have excluded life itself.”  Lewis became one of Christianity’s greatest advocates with the realization: there can be only one of two conclusions regarding Christ: 1) He is the greatest deceiver of all time, or 2) He is exactly what and who He said He is: the Son of God and the Redeemer of mankind.  The resurrection of Christ is the best documented miracle in history.

Allan Variance – Spirit of Revelation

The Spirit of Revelation

Sir Isaac Newton, who is best known for his contribution to the scientific revolution of the 17th century stated: “Truth is the offspring of silence and meditation. I keep the subject constantly before me and wait ’til the first dawning opens slowly, by little and little, into a full and clear light.”

What a beautiful narrative describing the spirit of revelation.

In the early 1800’s the Prophet Joseph Smith’s thoughts on this topic seem most poignant: “THE SPIRIT OF REVELATION is in connection with these blessings. A person may profit by noticing the first intimation of the spirit of revelation; for instance, when you feel pure intelligence flowing into you, it may give you sudden strokes of ideas, so that by noticing it, you may find it fulfilled the same day or soon; (i. e.) those things that were presented unto your minds by the Spirit of God, will come to pass; and thus by learning the Spirit of God and understanding it, you may grow into the principle of revelation, until you become perfect in Christ Jesus. [Joseph Smith, History of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7 vols., introduction and notes by B. H. Roberts [Salt Lake City: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1932-1951], 3: 381.)]

Both Issac Newton’s experience and Joseph Smith’s summery compliment Merriam-Webster Dictionary’s definition of “Revelation”.

A: “An act of revealing or communicating divine truth. B: something that is revealed by God to humans. C: an act of revealing to view or making known. D: something that is revealed especially E. an enlightening or astonishing disclosure “

The Torah – A Law of Love

The following is a fascinating exchange between an Elder and a Rabbi regarding the Torah, the Talmud and the Book of Mormon.  Torah is “The Law of the Lord.” the Five Books of Moses.  The Talmud includes”Oral Traditions” and interpretations of the Torah as passed down through the centuries and is like scripture to the Jews.  “Love” is a central value in Jewish theology and ethics.  At the center of “Love” is “Peace and Joy”.  The Elder and the Rabbi discover an amazing relationship between these two theologies through the understanding of joy.

The Law of Love

I taught institute for eleven years for the Moroni Stake for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  During that time I was researching the “Law of Love.”  I found this fascinating article in BYU Studies: https://byustudies.byu.edu/content/elder-among-rabbis.  I made contact with Dennis Rasmussen, Professor of Philosophy at Brigham Young University, and he gave me permission to share this article with my institute class.  Here, I only share a summary of his fascinating experience and insights.

Trust in the Lord – A New Discovery

Learning to trust in the Lord, and not “the arm of flesh,” is fundamental to our mortal journey.  I have been studying this phase for decades because of its importance.  In the early morning hours of 25 January 2019, the Lord gave me a new discovery on how it harmonizes the King James Version of the Bible (KJV) and is an inspiring example of the divinity of this great book.

King James Bible Message

There are exactly 1189 chapters in the KJV – which number aligns perfectly with Psalms 118:9, which is the main message of the KJV, “Trust in the Lord.”  Then the Lord also puts this phrase, “Trust in the Lord,” back-to-back in the previous verse, Psalms 118:8.  Then I was additionally shown that by Divine design the center chapter of the entire KJV is Psalms 117:1-2, and that there are 594 chapters before this chapter and 594 after, and 594 + 594 = 1188, which aligns perfectly with Psalms 118:8.  So uniquely, the main message of the KJV, “Trust in the Lord” is highlighted by the Lord in both the total number of chapters and as well by the center chapter.  How special is that? What does Psalms 117 say?
“O praise the Lord, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people.  For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the Lord endureth for ever.  Praise ye the Lord.”

Synchronizing Deep Space Network

How GPS helped NASA/JPL synchronize their Deep Space Network tracking stations and my personal involvement in that process.

I just learned of the passing of a friend and colleague from Boulder, Dick Davis.  Dick was an amazing electrical engineer, and he was part of the team that developed TV captioning – earning them an EMMY AWARD.  Later on he was part of my time and frequency dissemination research team.

I had listened to a JPL talk at the Frequency Control Symposium in Atlantic City, NJ, on how they synchronized the Deep Space Network using quasar signals and hydrogen maser atomic clocks. The DSN locations were in Canberra, Australia, Goldstone, CA, and Madrid, Spain. They would point their 64 meter wide dish antennas at the same quasar in the center of our galaxy, and then using the excellent time stability of the hydrogen maser atomic clocks, they would correlate the signals being received between these DSN sites.
