Revelations 12 – War In Heaven

In Revelations 12:1-9 we read about the war in heaven. On September 23, 2017, we witnessed this chapter played out in the heavens; this amazing sign of the virgin (Virgo) giving birth to the man child (Jupiter). A woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of stars on her head, crying out in pain as she was about to give birth, and Satan, who did not prevail, trying to destroy the "man child, " or the coming forth of a pure society.

This Sign in the Heavens is NOW Being Played Out Before US

Because of current events is why it is EXTREMELY important to understand WHY the “WAR in HEAVEN” TOOK PLACE; we read:
“And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.  And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”  (Revelations 12:7-9)

Gratefully, the Bible tells us of this war in heaven and who fought in it, but it doesn’t tell us why. We find the answer to this very important question in the Book of Moses, which may be found in the book, The Pearl of Great Price.  In Chapter 4:1-4  of Moses we read:

“And I, the Lord God, spake unto Moses, saying: That Satan, whom thou hast commanded in the name of mine Only Begotten, is the same which was from the beginning, and he came before me, saying—Behold, here am I, send me, I will be thy son, and I will redeem all mankind, that one soul shall not be lost, and surely I will do it; wherefore give me thine honor.  But, behold, my Beloved Son, which was my Beloved and Chosen from the beginning, said unto me—Father, thy will be done, and the glory be thine forever.  Wherefore, because that Satan rebelled against me, and sought to destroy the agency of man, which I, the Lord God, had given him, and also, that I should give unto him mine own power; by the power of mine Only Begotten, I caused that he should be cast down; And he became Satan, yea, even the devil, the father of all lies, to deceive and to blind men, and to lead them captive at his will, even as many as would not hearken unto my voice.”

Why was there a War In Heaven?

So we learn from the above scripture that  the war in heaven was fought over agency.   What does that mean?  The words “agency,”  “free agency,” and “moral agency” do not appear in the Bible.   Agency, as used in this scripture, is the right, the power, to act on the choices we make,  which is fundamental to the Lord’s perfect plan of happiness.  Implicit in the above scripture, we see that the Lord gave us agency before we were born — in our pre-mortal sphere of existence.  Satan’s plan was to “redeem all mankind” by taking away our agency – to force us to heaven, which would never work.  Thus the war in heaven was to protect our agency — our right to chose and act upon those choices.

Agency Definition and its Great Importance

Noah Webster in his 1828 Dictionary defines AGENCY:
“The quality of moving or of exerting power; the state of being in action; action; operation; instrumentality; as, the agency of providence in the natural world.”

Whereas, choice is a mental decision, agency is putting that choice into action, and we see that Noah Webster’s inspired Dictionary lines up beautifully with the above scripture from Moses.

The Lord will never take away our right to choose; it is inherent in our intelligence, which is co-eternal with God, as I explain in Chapter 2 of my book, “Its About Time”. But He can take away our right to act on those choices.  For example, Goliath made the choice to kill David, but the Lord prevented that from happening by a stone from David’s sling-shot. Speaking in a pun; nothing like that had ever entered Goliath’s head before!

As we act upon the choices we make, those actions determine our final place – heaven or hell.  Well did Joshua say, “Choose ye this day whom ye will serve; as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”  If we chose to believe in Christ, live His gospel, and look to Him in every thought with a constant prayer in our hearts, then we are guaranteed eternal life and a fullness of joy, the greatest of all the gifts of God.  Thus we see that agency is the heart of Heavenly Father’s plan of Happiness.

Why would anyone choose otherwise? But, as mortals, we do. As part of the plan, we are born into a fallen world. If there were not opposition, we could not grow. As stated in Revelations Chapter 12, Satan and his angels were purposefully cast down to the earth, as part of that opposition, and we are carnal, sensual, and devilish by nature in our fallen state.

Side Note: It is fascinating that the 4 ½ square mile earthworks made anciently by the native Americans near Newark, Ohio, depict 1/3 of the hosts of heaven not receiving a body, as Satan’s angels, and as alluded to in Revelations 12:4, “And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven.”

Notice the above scripture from “Moses” says that Satan can only deceive those who will, “not hearken unto my [the Lord’s] voice.” Only as we listen to the Spirit of Christ, centering our lives on Him, and follow His glorious gospel can we overcome our fallen nature, and then we can become new creatures in Christ – baptized of the water, spirit, and fire. We are born again, with no disposition to do evil, but to do good continually.

Because of Christ’s infinite atonement, we are brought to this happy state of being – opening the door to salvation and exaltation.  He has done everything necessary for us to overcome our fallen state. It is our choice to use our agency to act as true disciples of Christ and overcome the challenges of our fallen nature.  He knows the solution to and will help us learn from and overcome every challenge.

How is the World Using Agency?

The choices being made by most people in the world is to look for technology to solve our problems.  In so doing men tend to worship the “works of men’s hands.”  This tendency is hell-bound, and it is only when we look to God that we can enjoy the abundant life Christ promised.  High tech can be either good or bad depending on its use. This high tech era has been extremely useful in building the Kingdom of God when we make proper choices in how to use it.  If we use it to serve one another, to glorify God, to help His children come to know the Father and the Son, and to share the most important message there is to share –the gospel of Jesus Christ — then this is the best.  But those doing the latter are a minority.

God’s Path and Satan’s Tactics

Imagine if every human choice were only motivated by Christ-like love, then wars would cease, peace would prevail, and we would move into the ideal society, which is called Zion – the pure in heart. We can clearly see why the first two great commandments are to Love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and our neighbor as ourselves.   Obeying these commandments is being Christ-centered, rather than self-centered.

The War in Heaven is Now Upon us at an Accelerated Pace

It is extremely important for us to know that the war in heaven is being waged in a major way on earth today. Satan knows it is his last hour, and he and his angels are doing every thing they can to divert us and to deceive us from being Christ-centered.  There is an endless list of distractions that Satan is using against us.  The greatest threat to Christianity today is the materialistic-secular encroachment.  People are loosing faith in droves because of it.  I believe one of the main reasons the Lord had me write my book is to counter this Satanic attack, and I am pleased with several five stars on Amazon and that it is available in audio format as well.  America is the “Promised Land” from which the gospel is to go forth to all nations in the last days as prophesied in Isaiah Chapter 11 as an “ensign for the nations.”

Who will We choose to Follow?

In summary, the War in heaven, as described in Revelations 12, was fought over the principle of agency, is still being waged in a major way on earth today.  We win if we use our agency to follow Christ.  Satan, and all the anti-Christs out there, are doing everything they can to keep us from being Christ-centered.  Those who are not Christ-centered will lose.  Whether we win or lose is all in how we use our agency — follow Christ or not.  The Lord is coming again, and choosing to hearken to His voice will make it a glorious day.  Then we will have used our agency in the best way, and will receive a fullness of joy.
