Who are the Gentiles?
To the Jews, they are all who are not Jewish. To the Mormons, they are all who are not Mormon outside of the Jews and the scattered tribes of Israel. The term gentile is used to describe “outsiders”, or outside of the covenant.
Who are the covenant people cited in the scriptures? The covenant people are generally considered “The House of Israel”, those who came from the loins of Jacob and have been scattered. However, the Prophet Joseph Smith states that there are many nations who are considered gentiles, including those who came to settle the United States, even though they may be from the House of Israel. He also states the Mormons are identified with the Gentiles. D&C 109:60. Covenant people are simply those who keep their covenants and trust in the Lord and not the arm of flesh (Psalms 118:8).
