Most Important Holiday

What is the most important holiday of the year for Arabs, Jews, and Gentiles? Is it Christmas, Passover, Easter, or the Muslim “Feast of the Sacrifice? We find some interesting answers. Traditions often lead us down strange roads – very different from the reason they were started.  Such is the case with these major holidays.

This Pictorial from Ancient American Tradition gives us the Truth about the date of Christmas.

I will explain later in the context of this article the fascinating information depicted here. It depicts the moon rise at the time of the Savior’s birth. FASCINATING INFORMATION. I will explain that later as well.

Where are we today with Christmas?

Christmas has become highly commercialized and is the biggest money-making season for many businesses. Today, Christmas is way overdone from the original intent. Nowadays commercialization starts well before Thanksgiving. However, on the positive side, many are turned to Christ, His birth, and the love that surrounded His life – causing many to unselfishly give of their means and their time to bless the lives of others. The beautiful Christmas music is inspiring to the soul.

Christmas or Easter

Which is the more important holiday to celebrate, Christmas or Easter? If we ask the question of most Christians, considering the money expended and the time and focus spent, it clearly indicates Christians have lost focus. It is the infinite atonement that opens the door to the greatest of all the gifts of God, the gift of Eternal Life. The Easter season should be our most important time of reflection, celebration, and commemoration so that the Lord would know the feelings of our hearts and our deep feelings of gratitude for this most important event in the history of the Earth.

Interesting

Question

It is interesting to ask the question, “Why did the Lord Jehovah specifically take Abraham from Hebron a three days journey all the way to Mt. Moriah? Here we have another cornerstone message to all who will heed. He led Abraham to Mount Moriah for a type and shadow sacrificial offering – the same Mount where Jehovah knew that He, himself, would be sacrificed. For we read that the Father “so loved the world that He gave His Only Begotten Son” (John 3:16). We give gifts at Christmas. The most important gift ever given is the gift of His Son. Father’s gift of His Son provided the infinite and eternal atonement – the most important work ever to be performed on the face of this Earth.

Both the Father and the Son knew that this was necessary for us to return to the Father through our Faith in His Son and our repentance so that we may receive fully the grace extended by Him. The Father allowed the suffering of His Beloved Son because of His love for us, and the Savior was held to the cross, not by nails, but by love. He could have come down had He chosen to do so – knowing that if He chose to come down, we could not return to the Father. His love for us held Him there.

We cannot comprehend His infinite suffering for us. I just watched a documentary on the “Shroud of Turin” that  touches you to the core about what Christ went through.

Abraham’s Offering is Type and Shadow

Abraham’s willingness to offer his “only” son is a type and shadow of the infinite atonement for us all. It is interesting that the word “love” in the Bible first occurs, as the Lord shares with the world this monumental event. This type and shadow is especially poignant for the descendants of Abraham who are Arab, Jewish, and Christian. For Abraham was told, “God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering…” (Gen. 22:8) In the Hebrew, this verse indicates that Jehovah will give himself, the final and great sacrifice.

Important Celebrations

Intriguingly, Muslims, Christians, and Jews all had very important celebrations at the same time of year when Abraham made his famous three day heart-wrenching journey to Mt. Moriah. We saw this specifically among our Muslim friends, while we were serving a mission in West Africa. They celebrate Eid Al-Adha, which means, “The Feast of the Sacrifice” and commemorates Abraham’s willingness to be obedient and sacrifice his son Ishmael to God. In God’s mercy,  the Lord provided a LAMB and saved Ishmael. The Muslims replace Isaac with Ishmael, because the descend from Ishmael.

The Jews’ Passover commemorates their “deliverance” from Egypt. The Lord caused the exodus from Egypt to happen at the same time of year as He would work out the infinite atonement. Thus, as a Jew ponders the Passover, they are led to look to their ultimate “deliverance” through the atonement of Jesus Christ. There are now over 350,000 Messianic Jews, and the number is increasing rapidly.

Many of the Jews converted to Christianity still celebrate the Passover for they can see that it points to Christ. Though most Jews and Muslims unknowingly commemorate the atonement in their celebrations, if they seek, they will find through the eye of faith that grand connection – leading them to Christ.

Christian Tradition

The tradition of celebrating Christmas on December 25th has been shown to not be a valid date for the birth of Christ.  Christmas is celebrated on December 25 in most Western Christian churches (Protestantism and Roman Catholicism). However, the Eastern Orthodox churches have not accepted either the Gregorian calendar or the Revised Julian Calendar reforms. They celebrate Christmas on the 7th of January. A few Christian churches, most notably the Jehovah’s Witnesses, view Christmas as a pagan holiday and do not celebrate it. And their research is valid.

The True date of the Birth of Christ

Jesus’ true birth date was known by the North American Natives. Near Newark, Ohio, they constructed earthworks mapping out the plan of salvation. The date of the Savior’s birth was revealed to them. They made these earthworks to show the world the date of the Savior’s birth. And they knew the moon would be lined up with the 51.8 degree divine ratio at that great celebrated moment of his birth. This alignment depicts the great octagon connecting a perfect sphere. The great octagon depicts the millennium and the sphere depicts the celestial kingdom. The Savior’s birth opens the door for everyone who will come unto Him to enjoy Eternal Life. They knew His birth would be on the 6th of April, and this lunar alignment occurred at that time.

Most scholars believe that the birth of Jesus was probably in the spring and is highly unlikely to have fallen in deep winter. Originally, the Christmas date was set to correspond with Greco-Roman festivals. As early as A.D. 354, the Birth of Christ was celebrated on Dec. 25th in Rome. Other cities had other traditional dates. The word “Christmas” is often abbreviated to “Xmas”, the “X” being an uppercase Greek letter chi, which is the first letter of “Christos” in Greek. The abbreviation is widely known, but not universally accepted and some view it as demeaning to the name of Christ

Dates Given by Revelation

Interestingly, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been given by revelation that the birth date of the Savior is 6 April (Doctrine and Covenants, Section 20). To commemorate this date, in 1830 the Church was organized by Joseph Smith
In the Book of Mormon, the Christians in America were given a sign of His birth. They also saw the new star and began the dating of their calendar with the birth of Christ. They were also given to know of the crucifixion and resurrection. The Book of Mormon calendar properly ties together the Savior’s birth and His infinite atonement.

“And there was also a great and terrible tempest; and there was terrible thunder, insomuch that it did shake the whole earth as if it was about to divide asunder. And there were exceedingly sharp lightnings, such as never had been known in all the land. …the whole face of the land was changed, because of the tempest and the whirlwinds, and the thunderings and the lightning, and the exceedingly great quaking of the whole earth; And the highways were broken up, and the level roads were spoiled, and many smooth places became rough. …And behold, the rocks were rent in twain; they were broken up upon the face of the whole earth, insomuch that they were found in broken fragments, and in seams and in cracks, upon all the face of the land. And it came to pass that when the thunderings, and the lightning, and the storm, and the tempest, and the quakings of the earth did cease—for behold, they did last for about the space of three hours;… —and then behold, there was darkness upon the face of the land. And it came to pass that there was thick darkness upon all the face of the land, insomuch that the inhabitants thereof who had not fallen could feel the vapor of darkness; And there could be no light, because of the darkness, neither candles, neither torches; neither could there be fire kindled with their fine and exceedingly dry wood, so that there could not be any light at all; And there was not any light seen, neither fire, nor glimmer, neither the sun, nor the moon, nor the stars, for so great were the mists of darkness which were upon the face of the land. And it came to pass that it did last for the space of three days that there was no light seen; and there was great mourning and howling and weeping among all the people continually; yea, great were the groanings of the people, because of the darkness and the great destruction which had come upon them.” (3 Nephi 8:6-23)
The three days of darkness are still remembered among some of the American Indians, and caused them “… to exclaim: “The God of nature suffers.” (1 Nephi 19:12)

The Savior’s glorious resurrection was most dramatically manifest to those, who were more righteous and who remained after these destructions, by His visit to them. He showed them the marks of the nails on his hands, wrists, and feet. Their calendar gives the date of His crucifixion as being 33 years and four days after his birth. (3 Nephi 8:5).

Marvelous Work and Wonder

Chapter 29 of Isaiah tells of “voices” from the dust sharing a “marvelous work and a wonder. The Book of Mormon beautifully tells of the Savior’s visit to North America and the enormous impact it had on society at that time. There are many Hebrew relics that have been found in North America bearing witness to this monumental event. (I did a podcast with Brian Nettles and Michael Claridge describing the infinite atonement on one of these stones.) https://itsabouttimebook.com/two-hundred-names-for-jesus/ .

So, from the above information, we see that the Savior’s birth, the Jewish Passover, the Muslim’s “Feast of the Sacrifice,” and the infinite and eternal atonement are all concurrent dates of the year (within a week or so), and needs to be our greatest celebration.
What a unifying thing it would be if Muslims, Jews, and Christians would come together in the realization that they are all celebrating the same thing. The Atonement of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is the most important event in the history of the earth, for all of Heavenly Father’s children.

It is my prayer, that all faiths, cultures, and races will unite in the spirit of love. It would honor the life and death of Him who gave all that we may receive all, even a fullness of joy in the mansions of the Father. May we forgive as He forgave. May we love as He loves. And, that our repentance be complete so we may receive fully of the infinite grace extended by Him.

Starting with Gethsemane and ending with His glorious resurrection, He completed the seven steps to His infinite atonement.  He was held to the cross by love, and because of Him we now partake of His loving embrace and partake of His grace. The fullness of His gospel offers eternal life and a fullness of joy, and we look forward to a glorious resurrection. For me we should celebrate Him continually and especially celebrate Easter, when He overcame all things.

PS His suffering in Gethsemane was greater than what the Jews and Romans put Him through with His trial and crucifixion. Dr. John Campbell shares incredible insights about this in his video about the “Shroud of Turin.”

Easter – The Most Important Holiday

Easter is the most important holiday for the world to celebrate.  Easter commemorates the completion of the three days and three nights of the infinite atonement, with two Sabbaths back-to-back.He is Risen

“He is Risen” changed the dynamic for the whole world, as the Savior completed the seven steps of His infinite atonement. “He that ascended up on high, as also he descended below all things, in that he comprehended all things, that he might be in all and through all things, the light of truth;” (D&C 88:6) The Father’s infinite love for each of us is manifest in this most important of all gifts of His Beloved Son. The Savior’s infinite atonement perfected Heavenly Father’s Plan of salvation for all of His children. Our praise and gratitude need to extend to the core of our hearts for this gift given by our infinitely loving Heavenly Father.

His Resurrection Miracle

His resurrection is the best-documented miracle in history and the most important miracle. We are all the beneficiaries of His glorious resurrection bringing us all back into the presence of God to be judged. The resurrection also opens the door to the fullness of JOY. (D&C 93:33-34)

The Fifth Gospel

I recently learned of a Fifth Gospel that was actually written before the four gospels. It was taken to England by Joseph of Arimathea, Jesus’ great uncle, who became an Apostle there.  I just got a hard copy last Monday (3 April 2023). It is in old English format and is hard to read, but I found it most fascinating. I have gone through all 288 pages and learned three new and very important things:

1.  After the Savior was resurrected, one of the first things He did was appear to his Mother, Mary, and the book gives a remarkable description of what a great blessing this was to her. I don’t think we can comprehend the trauma in her heart because of what her son had gone through the previous three days. When you think about it, why wouldn’t Jesus do this for her—giving her love for him and knowing who He was, as the Son of God, from the time of her miraculous conception? (Luke 1:35)

2.  The E-book Fifth gospel that I have shared before is clearly a modern translation of the ancient text in the book that I have but using modern English words. They have done a great job from the original but with some errors. None of the gospels are perfect translations. As always, we need to read the scriptures with the Spirit.

3)      The Apostle John talks about a high Sabbath—preceding the regular Sabbath—two Sabbaths in a row, which can happen as is part of Jewish tradition orchestrated by the Lord. (John 19:31) In other words this double Sabbath occurred so that prophecy would be fulfilled, as He lay in the tomb for three days. As the Savior said, it was just as Jonah was three days in the belly of the whale, (Matt. 12:39-40) Jesus earlier declared to the Jews, who asked for a sign. A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh for a sign, but He would give them the sign of the Prophet Jonah.  So, He was crucified on Thursday and was in the tomb Thursday, Friday, and Saturday until Sunday morning–making Thursday the GOOD THURSDAY we should commemorate for the weekday of His crucifixion. On page 234 of this new book I just got, it tells of the “TWO SABBATHS” to complete the three days. So, “Good Friday” should be “GOOD THURSDAY,” but false traditions have changed it over the years.

Three Days and Three Nights

The three days and three nights of darkness here in America correspond exactly with the time he suffered—starting in Gethsemane until he arose from the tomb—completing the seven steps of His perfect and infinite atonement. The resurrection is the capstone of His infinite atonement.

The fall of Adam and Eve brought both spiritual and physical deaths into the world. The infinite atonement overcame both. The Apostle Paul said it well, “But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.” (1 Corinthians 15:20-22) The Book of Mormon is very clear on this important doctrinal point. It is Christ’s resurrection that brings us back into the presence of God. (2 Nephi 9:6, 12, 22; Helaman 14:15-16)

The Infinite Atonement

Most Christians look to the cross and the blood of Jesus for salvation. Members and leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints express their gratitude for the “atoning sacrifice.” These views miss the incredible depth of the infinite atonement, which includes both His suffering & sacrifice and His glorious resurrection. The word “infinite” is needed to describe the atonement. As best we can comprehend it we should speak and think of the infinite atonement. As mortals, this is a major challenge for us, but the better we understand the infinite atonement, the closer we come to knowing the Father and the Son, which is eternal life. (John 17:3) Without Christ’s resurrection, we would be “toast.” We would all be damned.

Three Religions Acknowledge The Infinite Atonement

I find it fascinating how the Lord has orchestrated events to focus the Christians, the Jews, and the Muslims on His infinite atonement. The Christians have Easter; the Jews have Passover, which commemorates the Lord saving the House of Israel from Egyptian slavery, and the Muslims have Eid Al-Adha, which means “The Feast of the Sacrifice”.

We witnessed this celebration specifically among our Muslim friends while we were serving a mission in West Africa. This celebration commemorates Abraham’s willingness and obedience to sacrifice his son on Mt. Moriah, which significantly is the same Mt. where Jesus finished the infinite atonement.

Abraham walked from Hebron to Mt. Moriah taking three days. Three days of great emotional pain for Abraham–signifying the three days of infinite atonement. When Isaac asked where is the sacrifice? Abraham responded, “My son, God will provide himself a lamb for the burnt offering…” Genesis 22:8 in the Hebrew language has the meaning God will be the sacrifice—the lamb without blemish.

Join Me In the Celebration

I pray that you will join me in continually expressing gratitude for the infinite atonement. The three pillars of eternity are the creation, the fall, and the atonement which includes Christ’s glorious resurrection.  Have a blessed Easter and also join me in commemorating these three days for the incomprehensible gift of Christ’s infinite atonement from the Father because of His infinite love for each of us.

Historian Flavius Josephus Testifies of Christ

Flavius Josephus, the Jewish priest, scholar, and historian was born 37/38 in Jerusalem. He wrote valuable works on Jewish history, including the final Jewish revolt of 66–70 AD–including Masada, 73 AD. He wrote of Christ, “About this time there lived Jesus if indeed one ought to call him a man. For he was one who  performed surprising deeds and was a teacher of such people as accept the truth gladly.” Without the writings of Josephus, we would have very little access to the events and history of the people of his time. He had dreams and was taught by the Lord.

Jew – Roman – Christian

I believe Flavius Josephus was and is the most essential historian ever to know that Jesus is the Christ.  We all have unique missions.  I believe he was highly unusual as we see him as a Jew, and a Roman, and surprising to almost everyone, there is substantial extent evidence that later in his life he became a Christian Bishop in Jerusalem.

The infinite atonement of our Savior had just exploded its paramount relevance in providing salvation for the world.  The Promised Messiah not only came with His message of salvation but perfected Heavenly Father’s plan of happiness with His infinite atonement—provided a resurrection for all in due process. “And the graves were opened, and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.” (Matt. 27:52-53).

Fifty days later at Pentecost, thousands were joining “The Way”—the Christians and their contagious love for one another and for their enemies was greatly inspiring all who observed them.  This contagious love brought many of those observers into the fold as well–including later on in his life, Josephus. Three years after Jesus’ resurrection, Josephus was born (37 AD), and as an observer, he was deeply touched by the Christian conversion rate explosion.

 Josephus’ Heritage and Works

If you read Wikipedia about Josephus, they paint him as a Benedict Arnold traitor—not surprising given the world’s atheistic put down of anything Christian. His writings and life disprove this notion.

He was born of noble Jewish heritage, and because of his incredible mental dexterity and leadership, he was greatly respected by Jews and Gentiles. He became close friends with the Emperors Vespasian and Titus.

In his autobiography, he shares, “I made mighty proficiency in the improvement of learning and appeared to have both a great memory and understanding.” Through the 16th – 19th years of his life, he spent with Banus, who lived “in the desert and used no other clothing than grew upon trees, and had no other food than what grew of its own accord, and bathed himself in cold water frequently, both by night and by day, in order to preserve his chastity.”1

Josephus did most of his writing in Rome. I have the book, “The Works of Josephus; Complete and Unabridged – New Updated Edition,” translated by William Whiston. I have learned a great deal from this two-column, small-print, 926-page book, which includes his autobiography (THE LIFE OF FLAVIUS JOSEPHUS), THE ANTIQUITIES OF THE JEWS, THE WARS OF THE JEWS, and several other documentaries—including the extent letter in Greek he apparently wrote about Hades while serving as a Christian Bishop.2

Josephus  Authorship of the ANTIQUITIES

The authorship of ANTIQUITIES goes back to the creation—beginning with, “In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth;”3 His writings parallel some ten thousand verses of scripture from the Old Testament and including some from the Apocryphal writings and often give a lot more detail than what we have in scripture.4

Josephus felt God’s protection throughout his life and received guidance in his pursuits. On one occasion amidst the Romans’ and Jews’ battles’, “But wonderful it was what a dream I saw that very night; for when I had betaken myself to my bed, as grieved and disturbed at the news that had been written to me, it seemed to me, that a certain person stood by me, and said, ‘O, Josephus, leave off to afflict thy soul and put away all fear; for what now grieves thee will render thee very considerable, and all respects most happy; for thou shalt get over not only these difficulties but many others, with great success.  However, be not cast down, but remember thou art to fight with the Romans.’”5

He had other heavenly visits and helps throughout his life. 6 When we do things God’s way, we find peace in the midst of the storms. No matter where he fought or what he did for the Jews or the Romans, God was with him. He tried to keep the Jews from fighting the Romans because he knew of the Romans’ great strength, but when his own people solicited him, he fought for them. As in our “Star-Spangled Banner,” “Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just.”

Lessons from the Destruction of Jerusalem

Later, the Lord allowed the Romans to destroy Jerusalem, because of their wickedness, as Jesus prophesied. (Matt. 24:1-2) This is like Isaiah prophesied of the Assyrian assault which will occur against this “hypocritical” nation—the Promised Land of America—unless her people repent and come to Christ. (Isa. 10:5-6) As with Jerusalem, so with America, unless we repent He has “created the waster to destroy.” But the righteous have the promise that “no weapon…shall revile against… the servants of the Lord…” (3 Nephi 22:16-17)

Over the entrance of the Norlin Library on the University of Colorado Campus is the inscription by George Norlin, “Who knows only his own generation remains always a child.” Josephus wrote in detail about the final destruction of Jerusalem. Knowing history allows us to build upon the insights, inventions, and truths brought forth by others, while also learning from their mistakes that hopefully, we will not repeat.

Historical Witness of Christ

Again, I believe we all have unique missions for our mortal journey, but I believe Josephus stands out as a historical primary witness of Christ, and God was with him as part of the Divine Law of Witnesses. The second historical and spiritual witness of the Christ is the Book of Mormon and we have L. Taylor Hansen’s great book, He Walked the Americas. When I got her book, I couldn’t put it down and stayed up all night reading it.

If we ask the question, “What is the most important historical truth we can build our lives upon?” I believe it is to know the Father and His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ. The Bible has done more good than any other book because of its most important message of the Christ. The Book of Mormon is another witness for Christ. The Book of Mormon has brought more people to Christ per capita of those who have read it than any other book. It became available to the world exactly ten years after the FIRST VISION of the Prophet Joseph Smith. The fingerprint of the Lord was evident as the first 5,000 copies were printed in the Divine ratio. Christ is mentioned five times more often in the Book of Mormon than in the Bible. Knowing and believing and internalizing the great truths in that book leads to the greatest happiness in this life and eternal life beyond the veil. (John 17:3; 3:16)

I see Josephus’ life and writings helping in a major way to know the truth about the Promised Messiah, who came and is coming again.  These witnesses are critically needed at this time. The woke and millennials have most probably never heard of Josephus; yet, we have a profound historical witness for them of Christ in Josephus’ writings.  It is the Christ who can and will solve the problems the woke and millennials face if they will but come unto Him. In addition, we see serious moral decay throughout the world in large measure because we haven’t learned important lessons from history.

The atheistic New World Order folks would use this moral decay to make us slaves and to depopulate the world—according to their agenda. On the other hand, we have a lot of people waking up to their evil intent and more-and-more are turning to Christ with His great promise: “Ye shall know the truth and the truth will make you free… If the Son, therefore, shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” (John 8:32, 36)  I gave a lecture on this pivotal scripture, and you can find the link for it at the end of this article.

William Whiston –  the Translator

William Whiston, who translated Josephus’ writings lived 35 years after Sir Isaac Newton. Newton was his mentor. Newton was born on Christmas Day in 1642. Whiston was an English theologian (Pastor), historian, natural philosopher, mathematician, and a leading figure in the popularization of Newton’s enormous contributions, as the greatest scientist ever.

Whiston succeeded his mentor Newton as a Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge. Newton, as a devout Christian student, had proved that the Church of England was wrong in many aspects of their theology, which threatened him from having fellowship at Trinity College, and he was willing to lose this distinguished position rather than compromise his beliefs. He and his friends petitioned King Charles II, and the King granted him exemption from “all holy orders.”

Whiston knew the life of Josephus probably better than anyone, and like Newton, he saw problems in the Church of England’s theology. As a pastor, Whiston was more vocal about his beliefs, and in 1710 he lost the professorship and was expelled from the university.  Whiston rejected the notion of eternal torment in hellfire, which he viewed as absurd, cruel, and an insult to God.

What especially pitted him against church authorities was his denial of the doctrine of the Trinity, which he believed had pagan origins. Which doctrine young Joseph Smith was told by God, “their creeds were an abomination in his sight…” (JS-H 19) Thanks be to God, that great vision opened the door for the world to know the true nature of God, which is eternal life. (John 17:3) Did you know the date of the first was so important that it was foretold in Enoch’s calendar? The Date of the First Vision | It’s About Time (itsabouttimebook.com)

Today, we owe a great debt of gratitude to William Whiston for providing the best English translations of the “Complete and Unabridged” works of Flavius Josephus. With the world spiraling down in anti-Christian and atheistic-satanic harassments against truth and light, we have this greatest historian—Flavius Josephus’—counterattack. It is Christ and only  Christ who can give us ultimate freedom, salvation, and exaltation. To Him and His Father, we owe praise, honor, and glory for their Perfect Plan of Happiness.
