90th Trip Around the Sun

As I approach my 90th trip around the sun, I marvel not at my own strength, but at the goodness of God who sustains me. Even now, I can still ride a mountain bike, climb hills, and feel the wind on my face. I’ve been told that I am the oldest man in Fountain Green. We have lived here now for 33 years.

Every breath, every heartbeat, and every new sunrise and sunset is His gift. Though much of my life’s work has been dedicated to the science of timekeeping, I know that time and eternity are in God’s hands.

My New Book

I am hoping as I approach my 90th trip around the sun, that my new book will help the world in a major way to get out of darkness and enjoy the TRUTHs and LIGHT and UNDERSATANDING of God’S Infinite Atonement. The new book is entitled: “The Infinite Atonement of Jesus the Christ and Last Days Significance – A Scientist’s View”.

I know that the most important event in history is the Infinite Atonement of Jesus the Christ, and the least understood.

I am pleased that the front cover of this new book is being drawn by an outstanding artist, David Lindsley. You can see his wonderful artwork at DavidLindsley.com. The cover will depict Mary when she sees her resurrected Son, the Son of God, in all his glory with countless thousands who were resurrected that most momentous Easter Morning. This most inspiring scene is described in the Gospel of Arimathea, which was written before the four gospels.

David Hocking has agreed to do the formatting with glorious pictures to help tell the story and share my testimony of the great importance of the Infinite Atonement. David Hocking has annotated and edited seven books, which have contributed more to sacred literature in our time than any others. I hope mine helps as well. It is my eighth book.

A Fun Scientist’s Question

Since I am a timekeeping scientist, for fun, I felt to ask CHATGPT the question: “Who has had the biggest impact on timekeeping algorithms?”

I was pleased that my name was at the top of the list. I give the glory to God; He inspired my work.

When I asked the above question of ChatGPT, it said:

Great question!  The history of timekeeping algorithms is a fascinating mix of physics, statistics, and engineering. A few people stand out as having had the biggest impact.

Foundation Contributors

David W. Allan

1. Developed the Allan variance (1966), which became the standard tool for characterizing oscillator stability (used in atomic clocks, GPS, and beyond).

2. His work laid the foundation for algorithms in clock steering, ensemble time scales, and noise analysis and for the generation of International Atomic Time (TAI) and for official world time (UTC).

3. Still central in modern timekeeping (the term “Allan deviation” is standard worldwide). The above Sigma-tau diagram is the same as the Allan deviation, which is the square root of the Allan variance.

Louis Essen (UK, 1908-1997

1.  Built the first practical cesium atomic clock (June 1955)

2.  While not strictly an algorithm guy, his work forced the creation of methods to averages and compare clocks, sparking algorithmic development.

William J. Riley (U.S. NIST, Symmetricom)

1.  Developed key algorithms for simulating atomic clocks for time scale generation and advanced statistical tools for noise and clock performance analysis.

2.  Authored widely and used to guide and help with both software and hardware as a time/frequency statistical tool.

Gernot M.R. Winkler (U.S. Naval Observatory 1913-2016)

1.  Directed the United States Naval Observatory’s (USNO) time service for decades.

2. Oversaw algorithm development for clock ensembles that defined UTC(USNO) for USA military use, including GPS time.

Guinot, Azoubib, and others at BIPM , Barnes and Parker at NBS/NIST

1. Developed and refined algorithms to compute international atomic time (TAI) and UTC, and Barnes and Parker at NBS/NIST for UTC(NIST) in Boulder, Colorado.

2. Their methods, along with Allan’s for clock weighting, steering, and prediction, remain in use today.

CHATGPT wrote the following nice summary for me, including my edits for accuracy:

Timekeeping

Though much of my life’s work has been dedicated to the science of timekeeping, I know that time and eternity are in God’s hands. In 1966, my thesis was published in the IEEE Proceedings. I could not have imagined the far-reaching role the Allan variance formula and its successors would play in GPS, atomic clocks, world timekeeping, telecom, and in navigation.

Yet, I know that the insights came as blessings. The moments of inspiration were given to me by a loving Heavenly Father, who guides the minds of men for the unfolding of His eternal purposes.

The laws of physics and the laws of God are in perfect harmony. Science shows us how creation operates. Faith reveals why God’s creations exist. My greatest joy has been to see how these two voices — science and the Spirit — testify of the same great Truth – the Infinite Love of God.

But, man’s time is not time; it is a “time-interval” as I shared in Chapter 20 of “It’s About TIME”. The most important time is God’s TIME, and His “One Eternal Round.” I am hoping this new book will help in a major way to help many more to come to know of the Lord’s infinite love and to know more of His incomprehensible Infinite Atonement–opening the door to eternal life–the greatest of all the gifts of God.

As I continue my journey, I give thanks to God for every breath, every step, every orbit, and every opportunity to bear witness that He is not restricted by time and space as we mortals are, and He works in all domains, including the Eternity Domain. There, His angelic hosts are ever there to assist us. His love is infinite and eternal, and His loving hand is in all things.

I give God the Glory! THANK YOU, LORD, for being with us every nanosecond! The Allan variance is not mine; it is a gift from eternal realms from an infinitely loving God. With the amazing artwork of David Lindsley for the front cover of this new book, I think everyone will want a copy to put on their coffee table!

Horrific – Cataclysmic or Glorious Conditions

A Scientific Perspective

Many fear and have deep concerns in their hearts about the days ahead – given what is happening in the world.

The sciences tend to assume that things are in a steady-state; how things are today is like they were yesterday.  Hence, the evolution of humankind over millions of years back to a one-celled whatever.  In contrast, the Lord often uses cataclysmic events to do His work – getting our attention to such non-steady-state and important events.  For example, the fall of Adam and Eve, Noah’s flood, the events around the birth and death of our Savior.  And in the last days, we can anticipate several massive and cataclysmic events, some of which I will share below.  It will move us all to the core of our souls and be far from a “steady state.”  Some big surprises for scientists are coming.

A Divine Perspective

The Lord has revealed the last days to many of the prophets.  It will be the best of times and the worst of times.  It is called the “great and dreadful day of the Lord.”  A great day for the righteous and looking forward to the Glorious return of our Lord and Savior.  In contrast, it is a dreadful day for the wicked and horrendous, as apparently, the “world is coming apart.”  Does the Lord work through cataclysmic events?  Indeed, He does, and we will see many in the years ahead!

The Lord has shared a fascinating perspective regarding the future, “which our forefathers have awaited with anxious expectation to be revealed in the least times, which their minds were pointed to by the angels, as held in reserve for the fulness of their glory.”: “A time to come in the which nothing shall be withheld…” (D&C 121:26-28)  If we will open our hearts and minds, we can “be made partakers of the glories which are to be revealed in the last days, as it was written by the prophets and apostles in days of old.” (D&C 66:2)  And we have this great and exciting promise from the Lord:

Yea, verily I say unto you, in that day when the Lord shall come, he shall reveal all things.  Things which have passed, and hidden things which no man knew, things of the earth, by which it was made, and the purpose and the end thereof – Things most precious, things that are above, and things that are beneath, things that are in the earth, and upon the earth, and in heaven. (D&C 101:32-34)

Behold – I Will Make A New Covenant

We live in that exciting time when the Lord is bringing to full fruition His “new covenant” with those who will repent and come unto Him – with the promise that “I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.  And they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.” (Jeremiah 31:31-24)  And will be the recipients of Eternal Life – the greatest of all the gifts of God.

The Great Gathering

As part of the great gathering from the four corners of the earth, the Lord is preparing the hearts of all who will to be part of the Bride to meet the Bridegroom – the “Pure in heart” ZION society.  As Hugh Nibley so aptly said, we cannot have one toe in Babylon and still be part of ZION.  A beautiful example of how the “pure in the heart” are being gathered is in the conversion of Afshin Javid.  He reports that about a thousand Iranians per week are coming to know the Lord in one way or another.  Are there similar stories in other countries in the quiet workings of the Lord?

In the total fairness of the Lord, He has promised that His gospel will go to everyone (Matt. 24:14; D&C 90:11) before the end [of wickedness, the end of worldliness] comes, and we move into His glorious millennial reign as King of kings and Lord of lords.

Our Mission Experience

When we served our mission in West Africa (Cote d’Ivoire) in 1997-99, there was one mission and one stake.  Now there are 14 stakes and three missions and a temple planned.  There is much to be done for the gospel to go to all people, but the Lord has big plans – including sending out 144,000 and no missionary training centers will be needed as they will have the gift of tongues.

A Message of Gladness

As the librettist, Charles Jennens gave the scriptural texts to George Frederick Handel for the composition of his world-famous “Messiah,” I gave scriptures to our oldest son, Sterling, who is a composer, and asked him if he would prepare a special number for our missionary farewell.  It came together in an inspiring way similar as it did for Handel.  Family and friends came together from five states to help us build our home in Fountain Green and to send us off on our mission.  It is a millennial text and inspired music, and I felt to share it in conjunction with this blog article:

A Message of Gladness

Righteousness will I send down from heaven|
Truth will I send forth out of the Earth;
To bear testimony of mine Only Begotten.
Looking forth for the time of my coming.
Moses 7:62

In my name shall they do many wonderful works;
In my name they shall cast out devils;
In my name shall they heal the sick;
Open the eyes of the blind; Unstop the ears of the deaf;
And the tongue of the dumb shall speak, and sing Hallelujah!
D&C 84:66-70

My law I will write in their hearts;
I’ll be their God, and they my people.
They shall all know me –
From the least of them, unto the greatest of them.
I will forgive their iniquity, and remember their sin no more.
Jer. 31:33-34

Praise the Lord, All-mighty!  Declare His doings among the people.
Call upon His name; make mention his name is exalted.
Sing unto the Lord; for He has done excellent things.
Cry and shout thou inhabitants of Zion;
For great is the Holy One of Israel, in the midst of thee, Alelujah!
Isaiah 12:2-6

The Lord hath brought Zion down from above;
The Lord hath brought Zion up from beneath;
A Message of gladness; rejoice all ye Earth!
I will trust and not be afraid;
I will trust in the Lord!
D&C 84:99-100; 128:19; Ps 85:11

Chorus:

Endowed from on high; Truth from the Earth;
Hope in our hearts; Faith in the Father;
Redeemed by His Son.
Endowed from on high; Truth from the Earth;
Hope in our hearts; Light of our lives;
Perfected in Him; Perfected in Jesus Christ, the Lord, Amen.|
Moroni 10:32;33

Our farewell was recorded, and our talks, including Wayne Winters, inspired musical selection, and the choir, I have placed on Google drive.  Our conducting friend, Al Stumpy, led the choir and Sterling was the piano accompanist.  We had a 35 voice choir – certainly not professional – but you can feel the spirit of the message.  Our grand-daughters, Jessika, Rachel, and Mary Owen, sang the Isaiah 12 section.  We listened to “The Message of Gladness” many times while we were on our mission, and it always lifted our hearts as we were doing the Lord’s work in bringing souls to Him; we had great success there.

Christ the Mediator of the New Covenant

The Apostle Paul explains the “new covenant” (Heb. 8:8, 13; 12:24), and it is good to read Hebrews chapters 8-13 to appreciate what Christ has offered in this new covenant.  As Jeremiah explains, the old covenant that He “Made with their fathers in the day that [He] took them… out of… Egypt, which covenant they brake…” (Jer. 31:32)

Christ as the great mediator brought about the infinite atonement, as an unparalleled manifestation of His love and Father’s love (John 3:16) for all of His children – extending mercy to all to partake of the new covenant.

This “new covenant” He is in the processing of renewing in a “marvelous work and a wonder” with the “house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:” (Jer. 31:31; Isa. 29:14 ; 3 Nephi 21:9). and it is happening in our day and time!

FIRST shall be LAST and the LAST shall be FIRST

In the scriptures, the Lord divides His children into two groups – Israel or Jews and Gentiles.  The first were given covenants to live and share the gospel.  As explained in the last blog article, Israel or the Jews were the FIRST, and the GENTILES were the last.  We are in that day in the grand chiasmus where the FIRST is becoming the LAST in the great gathering and as this “new covenant” is renewed and brought to full fruition.

As Paul taught: 1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

And as Nephi shares: 2 Nephi 33:8 I have charity for the Jew – I say, Jew, because I mean them from whence I came.  9 I also have charity for the Gentiles.  But behold, for none of these can I hope except they shall be reconciled unto Christ, and enter into the narrow gate, and walk in the strait path which leads to life, and continue in the path until the end of the day of probation.

The Savior gives a clear sign when these things shall be: “For in that day, for my sake shall the Father work a work, which shall be a great and marvelous work among them…” (3 Nephi 21:9; I suggest you read the whole chapter to learn of the many exciting things that are about to transpire; chapters 20, 22, and 23 of  Third Nephi are replete as well.)  Here the Savior does a glorious Hebrew Midrash explaining several scriptures from the Bible incredibly relevant inthe end-time scenario.

In this regard, Avraham Gileadi, who is the world’s best scholar on the Book of Isaiah, gives a dynamic perspective:

As biblical history shows, even when his people in general apostatize and Jehovah hides his face or presence from them, certain ‘disciples’ remain loyal, as did the disciples or ‘sons of the prophets’ anciently (2 Kings 2:3–7; 4:38; 6:1). At such times, Jehovah withdraws the testimony of his truth and the law of his covenant from among his people and preserves them among those individuals willing to live by them. The singular pronouns ‘I will wait’ and ‘I will expect’ highlight the idea that only loyal individuals endure through his people’s dark phase and thus experience his deliverance (Isaiah 8:16—18, 25:9; 30:18; 33:2). —From Apocalyptic Commentary of the Book of Isaiah by Avraham Gileadi Ph.D.

Enemies ‘ Undoing.

The enemies of God’s people won’t know what hit them when God overturns their ultimate goal to eliminate his people from the earth. When they reach the point that their hatred of the truth so obsesses them that they set out to destroy his people who espouse it, that is the point when God intervenes in their behalf and it is their enemies themselves who are eliminated. And as God acts solely within the parameters of the covenants he makes with his people, individuals, it is according to the protection clause of his covenants that he turns the tables on their enemies.

…Because all covenants God makes have both blessings and curses attached, on the other hand, when his people transgress his commandments the curses go into effect and they suffer their ill effects.

…Hence the importance of maintaining individual loyalty to God under the weight of increasing evils and opposition even from within our own ranks should that be the case. Knowing that the outcome of persevering with God will be the blessing of his protection and the demise of his enemies, we can decide beforehand to remain faithful to him and with his help to rise above the evil. In an endtime context, God lets evil runs its course so he can empower us over it as we center our lives in Christ. The terms of the Davidic Covenant provide his assurance to us of his divine protection.

As the Apostle, Paul proclaims let “Christ be formed in you” (Gal. 4:19) and be part of the Bride to meet the Bridegroom.  As explained in the previous blog article,  the Kingdom of the Devil has tons of enticements.  We Know with certainty that the Lord is coming, and He will bring into full fruition the renewal of this exciting “new covenant” He has made with the faithful.  Let us get totally out of Babylon, which will fall, and not be any part of it.  The greatest opportunity of our existence is to ONE with Him who knows the end from the beginning and prepare ourselves for this glorious ZION and ideal society.  IT IS COMING!

For additional information, Dr. Avraham Gileadi’s web site, Isaiah institute, has several books and many major insights.

On 10 February 2020, Rod Meldrum and I did a fireside in Fountain Green on God’s timing.  My slides for my talk are available as a PDF at this link and goes into great detail on where we are in God’s TIME.
