What Is The Most Important Thing for Healthy Living?

healthy livingBy healthy living, we mean in body, mind, and spirit (emotionally, physically, and spiritually).

Is it eating healthful, organic foods?
Is it doing proper exercise?
Is it having a good environment?
Is it having healthy, loving relationships with the Lord and all of His children?

Is it properly dealing with all the stresses in our lives?

This morning, I had a fun conversation with the Lord around these questions.  I learned a new lesson for me.  An attitude of gratitude goes a long way toward good health in body, mind, and spirit.  I thank the Lord for being willing to and wanting to do the will of the Father in suffering infinite pain, which only a God could do, that He covered our sins, and that He completely overcame the effects of the Fall – overcoming death and hell to bring us back into the presence of God.

His infinite love of the Father and for us took him there so that he glorified the Father and opened the door for all of Father’s children to return to Him through a perfect, infinite, and complete atonement.  Even the earth will be celestialized because of Him.  How incredible is the atonement?  How do you comprehend infinite?  The more I study and contemplate the Lord’s infinite atonement, the more love and gratitude I feel for Him, and the deeper is my appreciation.

Who would want infinite pain?

The Lord can get my attention with pain. I had a miracle a year ago when I prayed that during my quadruple by-pass open heart surgery, I prayed for minimal pain so that I would not need pain meds.  My pain never got above 2 on a 0-10 scale, and my recovery was phenomenal.

I am approaching complete recovery, except for where they stripped a vein in my lower left leg.  I had had a DVT in the groin area of that leg about five years before, and circulation has never been the same since.

Now a year later, I have been in much more pain than with the open-heart surgery with leg swelling and a sore that broke out on the inside of my left ankle. The pain has been excruciating with the carving and cutting the doctor has had to do three times a week to get rid of the wet gangrene and dead flesh and to get new flesh to heal.
This experience brought me to the above revelation.  Now I thank the Lord for the pain and the healing process is accelerated; I grow closer the Lord.

We have the cute phrase, “Attitude determines altitude!”  And in the context of the above revelation the Lord gave me, altitude means closeness to the Lord.
As one thinks about the first two of the greatest commandments, an attitude of gratitude is center to living them.  We see greater meaning in why the Lord would say, “Thou shalt thank the Lord thy God in all things,” “And in nothing doth man offend God, or against none is his wrath kindled, save those who confess not his hand in all things, and obey his commandments.”

The first two and most important of which are: “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all they strength: this is the first commandment.  And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.  There is none other commandment greater than these.” “On these two hand all the law and the prophets.” (D&C 59:7, 21; Mark 12:30-31; Matt. 22:40)  Chapter 4 of my book is devoted to this most important topic: “What is the True Nature of Love?”

I have learned that healthy living means much more than just eating good food and getting plenty of exercise, it’s spiritual ramifications are extraordinary as well.
