Two Overlapping Experiences

One: The gradual loss of vision seems to be an inevitable part of aging. However, many people unnecessarily lose their sight because they are unaware that their vision can be slowed or reversed by proper care.

Two: Rouleau is a clumping of the red-blood cells is due to a warm autoantibody. These antibodies cause your red blood cells to stick together. Rouleau can cause shortness of breath, dizziness, rapid heart beat and difficulty concentrating and remembering.

Killing Two Birds With One Stone

After we moved to Fountain Green in 1992, as I was sitting in Sunday school class I noticed difficulty in reading my scriptures.  I thought, “I guess it is time to get glasses,” and so I did.  I even got an extra pair when we went on our mission to Cote d’Ivoire, West Africa, in 1997-99, because I knew if I lost a pair or broke them, it would be impossible to replace them there.

After we returned home, and I had gotten over my arrhythmia problem, I read Dr. Robert O. Young’s book, Sick and Tired, and learned a lot. It is like a college text; every fifth word or so is like five-syllables long.  I was fascinated with his microscopy technique of looking at live-blood and being able to determine a disease and its cure.

I tried to contact him, but learned that he had moved to California because he was healing people in Utah and not an MD. and Utah was getting after him. However, he had trained others, one being Marie Dahlen in Linden, UT.  She was willing to do a live blood analysis for me.

Healthy Habits – Arrhythmia Solution

Arrhythmia is heart rhythm problem which occurs when the electrical impulses that coordinate your heartbeats don’t work properly, causing your heart to beat irregularly, or to fast, or too slow, or to miss a beat. Your heart may feel like it’s fluttering or racing.

Arrhythmia may be caused by coronary artery disease or an electrolyte imbalance Potassium, sodium, calcium, and magnesium are the substances in your blood which make up electrolytes. They help conduct the electrical impulses in your heart. If the electrolytes in your blood are too high or too low it can affect your heart’s electrical impulses and contribute to the development of arrhythmia. Arrhythmia affects millions of people in just America alone and can be life threatening.

Healthy Habits Healing- Recovery From a Stroke


A stroke can come on suddenly. So often those who suffer a stroke do not recover, but many do. However, the recovery period can be slow and arduous. I believe because of my previous healthy habits and the goodness of the Lord, I recovered quickly and have been able to resume an active lifestyle.

My Two Strokes

On 14 May 2018 I had two strokes; one in the morning and another in the evening.  Since blood pressure and heart issues are associated with this health problem, I share here what I have learned through this miraculous experience.  The Lord’s ways are often contrary to our ways, but as we trust in Him, we come to the deep appreciation that His ways are always best.

In conjunction with the Keithley Award, which I had received, I was invited to give a talk at an international IEEE Instruments and Measurements Conference in Houston, TX, on 16 May 2018 – a Wednesday.  As you can see from the above link, the Lord had other plans, and miraculously in spite of two strokes on Monday, I gave the talk on Wednesday.  Needless to say,  I got everyone’s attention as I stood up and said to an international audience of scientists, “I don’t know how many if you believe in miracles, but we just had one.”  Then I explained. The response of my colleagues was phenomenal. I was miraculously healed enough to give my full hour and ten-minute lecture.

My daughter Karie, had come down to Texas the day before to be with her dad. While I was hospitalized, and she made tons of friends, and we sold two cases of books with many wonderful gospel conversations.  That would not have happened if I had not had the strokes.

A Bit of Health History

In 1977, I was invited to give a lecture on flicker-noise in atomic clocks in Tokyo, Japan. I have always had a slow heart rate because of my athletic heart. In Tokyo, my resting heart rate was down to 38. While there, I would jog for an hour or so every morning.  One morning I got lost, and thanks for the Tokyo Tower, I found my way back to the hotel after two hours.

My Stroke Causes

We found out my stroke was caused by three things, 1) blood clot build up in my heart because of 2) arrhythmia and 3) because of my high blood pressure.  I will discuss the solution to arrhythmia in a future blog article, but here I share how I have dealt with my high blood pressure issue.

Healing From My Stoke

I inherited my hypertension problem from my mother and after my stroke they put me on BP medication (Pradaxa).   On 2 Jan. 2019 I felt to go off of Pradaxa and that I could manage my BP by proper hydration, good diet including red beets, daily exercise and doing Dr. Khalsa’s exercise to manage stress.

Today 23 May 2019, as I write this and by doing these things, I am happy to report that my blood pressure is 111/68 and my heart rate 58 bpm.

Healthy Habits Healing-Body, Mind, Heart and Soul

 

How do we learn “Healthy Habits?”  I will share what my eighty-two years have taught me, which has been most helpful for me.  At the end of this blog article, I will summarize my daily return.

How I dealt with my Heart Attack.

Loving to learn from a child as well as from a professor requires humility with a desire to receive the truth with joy from whatever source is one of my passions in life.  Then knowing that the Greatest Scientist is God and in His perfection, He is the greatest in any discipline we can imagine.  Ultimately, learning from Him is the way, the truth, and the life, and the only way to know what we learn from others is TRUE, as it resonates with body, mind, heart, and soul.

Pleasing God, is My Ultimate Passion.

Pleasing God is my ultimate passion.  As I retire each night in gratitude for His numberless blessings in my life, I ask to be protected from evil influences and to be taught by His angels who speak the words of Christ to my mind that I may know His will in my life – how I can help Him in his work, which is to bring souls to Christ, and what He would have me do the following day to best help Him in His work.  I then get up and do it with enthusiasm, and in doing so I find peace and joy.  At the same time, He knows I need to nurture body, mind, heart, and soul with appropriate exercises for all four dimensions of our beings.

As with all of us, I have had several challenges in my life to body, mind, heart, and soul.  Learning that life’s challenges are growth opportunities is a major step in coming to know God, which is eternal life.  Being grateful for them is hard, but most beneficial.  I have felt to share, as appropriate, how I have overcome some of these challenges – desiring to help you and yours.  If you see any in the list below that are appropriate for your needs or someone you love, my prayer is that what I share will help you overcome as well.  Christ overcame all things.  In Him, we have our ultimate hope in helping us overcome as well.
 
The Lord has designed our bodies miraculously to be self-healing if we will do our part in taking care of and nurturing properly body, mind, heart, and soul.

The following are sixteen physical challenges the Lord has helped me overcome.   I will cover them in sequential blog posts. Here we only deal with heart attack.

  3. Hypertension (High blood pressure)
  4. Arrhythmia (life-threatening according to the Dr.)
  5. Arteriosclerosis
  6. Arthritis
  7. Debilitating back injury
  8. Blood circulation problems
  9. Constipation problems
  10. Dementia
  11. Eye-sight degeneration
  12. Knee injury
  13. Overweight challenges
  14. Cancer
  15. Prostate challenges; and
  16. Excessive epistaxis (nosebleeds).

Heart Attack

I had a heart attack on the 1st of August, 2016. Stress is the number one killer, and I learned that my heart attack was caused by stress. The adrenal gland naturally secretes g-strophanthin to deal with exercise stress on the heart, but excess emotional stress can impede its release.  Thanks to my youngest son, Nathan, he found an article on Mercola.com by Dr. Thomas Cowan entitled, “What’s the Real Cause of Heart Attacks?” His article described my situation perfectly.  For some time now I have been taking a supplement that I get through my health-care practitioner from Dr. Cohen, which compensates when your body doesn’t produce enough g-strophanthin; it is Strophanthus Seed Extract, and I am now building back my cardio-vascular strength as I ride my mountain bike regularly.  The two links highlighted in this paragraph above are worth reading if you have any heart issues.

Daily Healthy Habits

I believe the first law of heaven is stated by the Savior in Luke 10:25-27: “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thy self.”  Matthew quotes Jesus further saying that on these two commandments, “Hang all the law and the prophets.”  In other words, all other commandments and gospel teachings depend on living these two commandments.
 
In my morning prayer, after the Lord has taught me during the night, I ask the Lord how I can best implement the Law of Love, and then let Him put in my mind those things that I can best do.
 
I then do my morning exercise routine (covered in my book) by listening to the Book of Mormon in French.  Then during the day, I read from the New Testament the “Come Follow-Me” program along with my wife.  I am now also reading Rob Kay’s “Voices From The Dust,” his adaptations showing the Hebraisms in the Book of Mormon, which I find very uplifting and inspiring.

Filling My Day

Then my day is filled with whatever activities, I feel the Lord wants me to do – including being a good steward over what the Lord has given, how I or we can be of service, take advantage of ministering opportunities, and we usually go to the temple weekly . Laughter is free medicine; be sure and get at least a daily dose.

If we don’t have other activities planned, we enjoy watching a good movie together, which is harder and harder to find. We often return to some of the classics that we always enjoy.

Life is good, and we rejoice in anticipation of the Lord’s Coming. We have been blessed with a wonderful family and friends and a rich heritage in this Land of Liberty. We are indebted to a loving Lord, whose mercy is ever there for us.
