The Savior’s Atoning Bridge

I introduce here the great importance of the “Atoning Bridge.” We have written in stone this most important message from the Book of Mormon of the Infinite Atonement and of the Savior’s glorious visit to the native Americans after His resurrection. This stone, found in North America, depicts not only His crucifixion but also His incredibly important three-day visit to paradise and His resurrection, which overcomes the sins of the world. The ancient writings on this stone authenticate its veracity–found by Russell Burrows in a cave. Burrows gave the stone to Wayne May, who sent me the image.

There are seven dimensions or steps to the Savior’s Infinite Atonement:

1.     Gethsemane
2.     Rejected by His own (Israel)
3.     Rejected by the Romans (Gentiles)
4.     Crucified
5.     Gave up His life voluntarily (John 10:17-18)
6.     Three days in Paradise
7.     Glorious resurrection
Steps 1 through 5 are His “Atoning sacrifice.” Steps 6 and 7 are His “Atoning Bridge”.

So, we have this most important equation in the Universe.

ANTONING SACRIFICE + ATONING BRIDGE = INFINITE ATONEMENT. This equation combines all seven steps of the Infinite Atonement. This is beautifully described in scripture: “He that ascended up on high, as also he descended below all things, in that he comprehended all things, that he might be in all and through all things, the light of truth; Which truth shineth. This is the light of Christ.” (D&C 88:6-7) It is the incomprehensible Infinite Atonement that brings wholeness and ONEness to the Universe, which otherwise is winding down. It is the Infinite Atonement that winds it up and perfects Heavenly Father’s Plan of Happiness. Our infinitely loving Elohim planned it and ordained it in the premortal epoch.

The “atoning sacrifice” is His infinite suffering for all of Heavenly Father’s children. The “atoning bridge” opened the door to the greatest of JOY for as He visited paradise and with His glorious resurrection. He “descended below all things” and the He “ascended up on high.”

In other words, in His Infinite Atonement, the Savior went from the deepest of suffering—bleeding from every pore for all the sins of all Heavenly Father’s children. Then He went to the heights of ecstasy with His glorious resurrection and visit to paradise—this through His Atoning Bridge, opening up resurrection for all and the opportunity of a fullness of joy in celestial realms of glory for the faithful who choose to come unto Him.

Atoning Bridge

We see the great importance of the “Atoning Bridge” in conjunction with the following story from the scriptures. We will see how it ties into the Atoning Bridge in an extremely important way. The Savior shares this story about the “rich man” who “fared sumptuously every day” and about the beggar named Lazarus. (Luke 16:19-31) When they died, Lazarus was caught up into Abraham’s bosom. The rich man was tormented in hell and asked Abraham for Lazarus to “dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.”

Abraham responded, “Remember that you exhausted your pleasures during your lifetime” (Ferrar Bible Luke 16:25). Faithful Lazarus, suffering as a beggar, received God’s grace. We see one of the reasons why the Savior used the name Lazarus, as it means, “God has helped.”  Abraham went on to say, “And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.” (Luke 16:26)

Bridging The Great Gulf

Because of the Infinite Atonement, the “atoning bridge” bridged that “great gulf.” The Apostle Peter tells us that Jesus bridged that “great gulf” when He spent His three days in the Spirit world. Peter goes on to share: “For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.” (1 Peter 3:18-20; 4:6) “For the [righteous] dead had looked upon the long absence of their spirits from their bodies as a bondage,” (D&C 138:50) Christ’s visit to them during those three days was monumental as He bridged this “great gulf” in His visit to the spirit world.

Alluding to His three-day visit to the spirit world, when the Jews asked for a sign, He told them: “For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” (Matt. 12:40) All things were created spiritually before they were created physically. The spirit world is the “heart of the earth” that Jesus visited.

Three Days In Paradise

Step 6 of the Infinite Atonement is Christ’s three-day visit to those who were in paradise, the righteous part of the spirit world. I estimate that He probably instructed over a million righteous souls so that they could be resurrected that first Easter morning. These are the righteous, all the way back to Adam and Eve, who were waiting for His visit. After He had completed the “atoning sacrifice, He bridged that “great gulf”. We cannot comprehend the JOY and how important that was to all those folks waiting for Him there in paradise.

Fairness of God’s Perfect Plan of Happiness

During those three days, He also organized the preaching of the gospel for those in the spirit prison (hell). The fairness and perfection of God’s plan of happiness inspire my soul and totally amaze me. In Elohim’s infinite love for all of Their children. Elohim honors the desires of our hearts. The full Infinite Atonement opens the door for everyone to receive a fullness of joy in the celestial realms of glory. The gift of eternal life is the greatest of all the gifts of God (D&C 14:7). It is our choice, and it is not a binary choice—heaven or hell.

Three Degrees of Glory

The Apostle Paul describes the degrees of glory associated with the great gift of the resurrection that the Infinite Atonement provides: “There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory. So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:” (1 Corinthians 15:40-43) Then Section 76 of the Doctrine and Covenants has several pages describing these different degrees of glory that the Prophet Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery saw in vision.

The Lord, in further discussions of these degrees of glory: “And they who remain shall also be quickened; nevertheless, they shall return again to their own place, to enjoy that which they are willing to receive, because they were not willing to enjoy that which they might have received. For what doth it profit a man if a gift is bestowed upon him, and he receives not the gift? Behold, he rejoices not in that which is given unto him, neither rejoices in him who is the giver of the gift. And again, verily I say unto you, that which is governed by law is also preserved by law and perfected and sanctified by the same.

“That which breaketh a law, and abideth not by law, but seeketh to become a law unto itself, and willeth to abide in sin, and altogether abideth in sin, cannot be sanctified by law, neither by mercy, justice, nor judgment. Therefore, they must remain filthy still.” (D&C 88:32-35) How we use our agency (free choice) makes all the difference. Look to God and live the abundant life promised here and hereafter. (Alma 37:47; John 10:10)

Lazarus

I believe another reason why the Savior specifically used the name of Lazarus in the above story because of His foreknowledge that He would later raise Lazarus from the dead. He dearly loved Lazarus and Lazarus’ sisters, Mary and Martha. He often stayed in their home. The raising of Lazarus from the dead brought many to believe. But then, those who do not believe “Moses and the prophets,” as described in the story of the rich man and Lazarus, were those who brought about His crucifixion and the “glory of God.”

We see that the events of raising Lazarus from the dead and the healing of the blind man—blind from birth—brought about “that the works of God should be manifest in him.” (John 9:3) And brought about Jesus completing the Infinite Atonement. God’s ways are not our ways or His thoughts our thoughts. (Isa. 55:8)

Now, two thousand years later, we still have the witness of the raising of Lazarus, because it changed the name of the town of Bethany to, in Arabic, “al-Azariya”–meaning the place where Lazarus lived, because of that profound miracle. Perfect Plan of Happiness

May we, in thought, word, and deed, reflect our love for Elohim and Their perfect Plan of Happiness. It is my observation that often the most famous and largest contributors to meaningful scientific truths are religious scientists: Newton, Galileo, Christiaan Huygens, and the list goes on. In our day,  and not well known, is Charles H. Townes tells how FLASH personal revelations came to him with some of his inventions. One of his inventions is a laser, which came after the maser. Can you imagine how many laser scanners there are just in grocery stores across the globe—many billions? Townes claimed that many of his important scientific discoveries, like his inventions of the maser and laser, occurred as a “flash” much more akin to religious revelation. This has happened to me on many occasions, and I know the Lord is there and hears every sincere pray (Matt. 7:7-8).

The synchronism that occurs in masers and lasers reminds one of the ONEness that will occur in the ideal Zion society that is coming in preparation for the Lord’s Coming. They will be of one mind and one heart, with no poor amongst them, and be pure in heart. That society will resonate with love and kindness as they serve one another, bringing forth the Lord’s designed purposes for that society. It is the society that we should all seek. It is the society that brings a fullness of joy and in due process brings us into celestial realms of glory. “Flashes” of personal revelation–filling their souls with joy–will come to those there as they use their time and talents to help achieve an Oneness with the whole of that ideal society. Synchronism in masers, lasers, and metronomes

Huygens invented the first pendulum clock, which improved the world of timing greatly until improvements came with the advent of quartz-crystal oscillators centuries later. All the way back in 1665, Huygens was the first to notice that two pendula would synchronize with each other if placed in proximity. He didn’t know it, but he had discovered the principle of synchronism in how masers and lasers work. There is a fun (less than two minute video) video with Daniel showing this synchronization phenomenon with metronomes. You will enjoy watching it. The common sounding board brings these metronomes into synchronism. This is how a maser and a laser work. The sounding board for the metronomes is like the resonant cavity in the case of a maser or laser.

Townes was involved with the invention of both the maser (Microwave amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) and the laser (Light amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation). The first atomic clock was an ammonia maser (Lyons, et. al.) in 1948-49 based on Townes’ invention. An ammonia maser was the first atomic clock I worked on when Jim Barnes hired me with the National Bureau of Standards in 1960. Laser frequencies are about 100,000 times higher than microwave frequencies.

The principle is the same for the metronome, or the maser, or the laser. The sounding board coupled to the metronomes causes all of them to be synchronized. The resonant cavity for both the maser and laser stimulates the atom or molecule, which is in an excited quantum state, to give off its photon in synchronism with all the other photons in the cavity. Physicists don’t talk about microwave photons, but again, the concept is the same. The ammonia molecules or hydrogen atoms in their excited quantum state are stimulated to give off their microwave energy resonant with the frequency energy in the cavity and also in phase (same mean time; they are all synchronized like the metronomes).

Charles FLASH idea for the maser came in 1951, and the first working maser was built and demonstrated in 1953–1954 at Columbia University. In 1958 Townes and Arthur Schawlow published the theoretical paper describing the optical maser (the laser) and filed their laser patent. Based on their work, Theodore Maiman built the first working laser at Hughes Research Laboratories in 1960–the year I hired on at NBS.

My Flash

My “FLASH” of personal revelation regarding how to measure this level of synchronization in masers came in 1981. Jim Barnes and I wrote a paper sharing, “A modified ‘Allan variance’ with increased oscillator characterization ability.”  I remember well the joy that filled my soul when that FLASH came. The Modified “Allan Variance” is denoted as MVAR in the literature. And MDEV is the square root of MVAR.

As in this diagram, the slope on a log-log plot reveals the kind and or color of the time variations in the clock. The plot not only reveals the kind or color and also the level of the time variations. MVAR caught on big time in the navigation community. The international navigation community invited me to write a paper, give a talk and chair a panel around MVAR—giving me a free first-class trip to St. Petersburg, Russia, in 2015.

The above is an MDEV plot of a hydrogen maser’s frequency stability as a function of the averaging time, τ. One can see the short-term stability is due to all the microwave photons in the cavity being synchronized together. It is called white-noise phase modulation (PM). The first two data points on the left are a measure of the level of this synchronization in this maser–like the synchronization of metronomes with a coupled sounding board.

At the request of the telecom community, Dr. Marc Weiss and I developed the “Time Variance” TVAR. TVAR is derived from the Modified Allan variance: TVAR = τ^2 MVAR/3. TDEV is the square root of TVAR. MVAR and TVAR are able to  characterize six different kinds or colors of time variations.

NASA/JPS uses active hydrogen masers in their Deep Space Tracking Network (DSN) because of their outstanding short-term timing stability as displayed above in the diagram. Their main tracking stations are in Goldstone, CA, Madrid, Spain, and Canberra, Australia.

The above diagram shows the white-phase noise for this hydrogen maser to be only 3.3 picoseconds at 100 seconds, and improving at τ^-1/2 for TDEV. A picosecond is one quadrillionth of a second (10^-12 s). This is one thousandth of the timing error needed for GPS-synchronized constellation clocks, which are synchronized to about a nanosecond (a billionth of a second). It is this kind of time stability that is needed for the DSN to track and communicate with deep-spacecraft like Voyager 1 and 2. Voyager 2 is now out in interstellar space—141 times further from us than is the sun. It now takes about 40 hours—round-trip time—for Canberra, Australia, to communicate with Voyager 2. It is gathering unprecedented data.

I find it fascinating that the current H-masers made by Microchip are more than 600 times better. Timing accuracy has improved a billion fold in my life time. The most accurate clock today is an Al+ ion Mg+ optical atomic clock at 5.6 x 10^-19.

Another Flash

I had another “FLASH” personal revelation on how to build a special GPS receiver that would allow the comparison of atomic clocks around the world with near-nanosecond accuracy. Marc was working for me, and he and I wrote a paper documenting this idea. I shared the idea with the folks at JPL, and they gave us (NBS, Boulder) a quarter of a million dollars to develop the GPS Common-view high-accuracy timing receiver. We then provided receivers at the three main DSN stations in Goldstone, CA, Madrid, Spain, and Canberra. It was a major breakthrough for them. It also became the main means of communicating atomic clock data to the BIPM for the generation of TAI and UTC (official time for the world). 28.pdf and 689.pdf.

The synchronization of the metronomes and atoms and molecules in masers reminds me of the Lord’s request for us to be one (a grand harmony for the ideal celestial society. I have a blog article on how to be one with God. The Lord gave me an equation that I shared with my Russian colleagues in 2015 on how to be ONE with God. The equation is in this blog article.

The Lord has given us a parable: “Behold, this I have given unto you as a parable, and it is even as I am. I say unto you, be one; and if ye are not one ye are not mine.” (D&C 38:27) May we synchronize our souls with Elohim, I pray.

PS Regarding uncertainty, Townes believed that we should be open-minded to a better understanding of science and religion in the future. This will require us to modify our theories, but not abandon them. For example, at the start of the 20th century, physics was largely deterministic. But when scientists began studying quantum mechanics, they realized that indeterminism and chance play a role in our universe. Both classical physics and quantum mechanics are correct and work well within their own bailiwick, and continue to be taught to students. Similarly, Townes believes that the growth of religious understanding will modify, but not make us abandon, our classic religious beliefs.

Charles H. Townes died in 2015, 99 years old, and his wife Frances died in 2018 at the age of 101. They had four lovely daughters. Charles was very devout.

On the 8th of November 2025, the Isaiah Institute hosted a virtual conference for only $24.95—the price of a book. In the comfort of my home, I attended the conference. For me, the information was gold. I learned a lot. It is still available, and the price remains the same today.

The General Conferences of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints inspire me. However, I learned so much more from the Isaiah Institute’s virtual conference, which is about the last days.

Conversion Story

Avraham permitted me to share his conversion story, how the Book of Mormon converted him during his five years in Israel. There, he learned the “manner of the Jews.” He then went on to study the Book of Isaiah—opening up the layered meanings relevant to the latter days. He also opened up the far-reaching role of the Davidic servant who will prepare the way for the Savior’s Second Coming and help the Lord bring about Zion—the ideal society.

The Lord commanded us: “Yea, a commandment I give unto you that ye search these things diligently, for great are the words of Isaiah.  For surely he spake as touching all things concerning my people which are of the house of Israel; therefore it must needs be that he must speak also to the Gentiles.” (3 Nephi 23:1-2) More than anyone else, Avraham has taken this commandment seriously.

Words Are Being Fulfilled

Much of this “Virtual Conference” explained how the words of Isaiah are being fulfilled in our day just as the Savior prophesied: “Ye remember that I spake unto you, and said that when the words of Isaiah should be fulfilled—behold they are written, ye have them before you, therefore search them— And verily, verily, I say unto you, that when they shall be fulfilled then is the fulfilling of the covenant which the Father hath made unto his people, O house of Israel. And then shall the remnants, which shall be scattered abroad upon the face of the earth, be gathered in from the east and from the west, and from the south and from the north; and they shall be brought to the knowledge of the Lord their God, who hath redeemed them.” (3 Nephi 20:11-13) And for the establishing of Zion as the Lord brings it forth.

Avraham Gileadi’s Conversion Story

Avraham Gileadi’s Amazing Conversion Story

Avraham Gileadi (Hebrew: אברהם גילעדי; born October 24, 1940) is a Dutch-born American scholar specializing in the Hebrew language after having spent five years in Israel and translated Hebrew texts. He has opened up the significance of the Book of Isaiah more than anyone else on the planet. Avraham was born in the Netherlands during World War II. His father worked in the resistance. When Avraham was ten years old, his family moved to New Zealand.

His move to Israel

During his growing up years, he felt a draw to Israel and to the Book of Isaiah. Moving to Israel at age 28, he lived for a time in the Jezreel Valley. There, a librarian handed him a copy of the Book of Mormon. Declined, but as she insisted, and he took it out of politeness. He personally told us humorously, that it may have been the only copy of the Book of Mormon in Israel!

Life in Israel involved him deeply in the Old Testament and its religious ties to Judaism. He states that “Judaism attracted me because of the unique manner in which Jews view the Law and the Prophets. I felt a depth of understanding I had not hitherto known.” His studies in Israel also took him to an orthodox religious kibbutz, at which time he was formally received into the Jewish faith and became an Israeli citizen. A climax occurred when as an orthodox Jew he studied at Yeshivat Hatfutzot, a rabbinic school in Jerusalem

He is offered a copy of the Book of Mormon

He described his impression as he read the Book of Mormon of being “filled with light.” Three years later he was baptized LDS in the pool of  Pool of Siloam. During those five years in Israel, the Lord was preparing him to learn “the manner of the Jews,” the importance of the Book of Isaiah, and an in-depth appreciation of the Hebrew language and its ancient roots.

His Academic Studies

Avraham received academic degrees from Brigham Young University: a B.A. in University Studies (1975), a M.A. in Ancient Scripture (1977), and a PhD in Ancient Studies (1981) with Hugh Nibley as chair. During his academic years, Gileadi taught Hebrew, Religion courses, and an Honors Philosophy class in the literary analysis of the Book of Isaiah. He also sought out and studied with Professor R. K. Harrison, a renowned Old Testament scholar of Wycliffe College, University of Toronto, Canada, who was noted for his conservative theological position.

Being fluent in Hebrew, Gileadi worked with the Hebrew Masoretic Text, the Dead Sea Scroll of Isaiah, and the Septuagint Version to provide a modern translation of the Book of Isaiah intelligible in English and true to the Hebrew. He used lexical tools constantly to accurately convey every nuance of meaning in the original language, finishing his translation of Isaiah during his PhD program.

Publications

In 1988 Deseret Book published his book The Book of Isaiah: A New Translation with Interpretive Keys from the Book of Mormon, followed in 1991 by The Last Days: Types and Shadows from the Bible and the Book of Mormon. Prominent LDS scholars including Hugh NibleyTruman G. Madsen and Ellis Rasmussen praised his work.

Isaiah Institute

Two colleagues created the Hebraeus Foundation in 1990 to sponsor his work. Out of that came the Isaiah Institute in 2000—providing access to podcast, books, and blog articles to open up the importance of searching the Book of Isaiah as the Lord has commanded. Avraham’s inspired insights have been a Godsend to me personally. I wrote a blog article sharing the great impact that Avraham’s work has had on me; I quote from it here:

The great LDS scholar, Hugh Nibley, shared,
“Dr. Gileadi has done the work from which all of us have shied for too long. Because of the great mass and charge of this largest book in the Bible [66 chapters], the formidable difficulty of its Hebrew, and the seemingly involved, repetitious, and often perplexing nature of its material, no one has had the heart to attack the whole book thoroughly.

“The author has met the challenge head-on, and after years of determined exertion, is now so thoroughly familiar with the book that he can set before us in a straightforward, uncomplicated form and a clear exposition of what it is all about. Here is very little that any reader will not be glad to learn.”

The Prophet Nephi shares regarding the words of Isaiah, “I know that they shall be of great worth unto them in the last days; for in that day shall they understand them; wherefore, for their good have I written them.” (2 Nephi 25:8) And, thankfully, Avraham has given us that great understanding.

Book of Mormon Invitation

The Savior told the Nephites: “Ye remember that I spake unto you, and said that when the words of Isaiah should be fulfilled—behold they are written, ye have them before you, therefore search them—And verily, verily, I say unto you, that when they shall be fulfilled then is the fulfilling of the covenant which the Father hath made unto his people, O house of Israel. And then shall the remnants, which shall be scattered abroad upon the face of the earth, be gathered in from the east and from the west, and from the south and from the north; and they shall be brought to the knowledge of the Lord their God, who hath redeemed them.” (3 Nephi 20:11-13)

Searching the Words of Isaiah

I am extremely grateful for the influence Avraham has had on my life. I share a special experience in that regard. I was President of the Boulder Stake in Colorado (1977-1987). One morning, as we were reading the Book of Mormon as a family, we had just finished reading 3 Nephi 23:1-3: And now, behold, I say unto you, that ye ought to search these things. Yea, a commandment I give unto you that ye search these things diligently; for great are the words of Isaiah. For surely he spake as touching all things concerning my people, which are of the house of Israel; therefore it must needs be that he must speak also to the Gentiles. And all things that he spake have been and shall be, even according to the words which he spake.”

As we were praying after, the Spirit washed over me, prompting me to “Search the words of Isaiah.”

My Study of Isaiah

I was one busy man with a wonderful wife and seven precious children in our home that we had built in the country. I was full-time in the Time and Frequency Division, providing official time for the nation, helping develop GPS, and doing exciting research. We had over 2,000 members in the Boulder Stake, and I was their spiritual leader. Following this prompting, I got up an hour earlier every morning for a year, and from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m., I searched the writings of Isaiah and every commentary that I could get my hands on. Avraham’s book, The Apocalyptic Book of Isaiah, was a Godsend. (copyright 1982). A year later, I gave a talk in a stake priesthood meeting about my findings. I had a brother come up to me after and say that was the best talk he had ever heard.

How blessed we are to have Dr. Avraham Gileadi’s contribution to help us better understand the great importance of the Book of Isaiah for the end times. And his work will continue to blossom because of its major significance in preparation for the Lord’s coming.

I have attended many of  Avraham’s lectures and subscribe to his IsaiahInstitute.com website and have listened to their podcasts. We have exchanged books, and I have most of his books. He has given me permission to use his material in Chapter 19 of my last book, My Revelations, with the chapter title, “Messiah ben Joseph and Messiah ben David’s Latter Day roles.” My book is worth buying just to get his insights on this extremely important topic for our day.

Birthday Celebration

On the 24th of October 2025, quoting Diana Olsen Petersen, “He will be celebrating his 85th birthday…” We are pleased to be celebrating with him as he is spending some time here in our Sanpete County. How blessed we are to have him open up the scriptures so relevant for our day as we anticipate the Second Coming of our Lord and Savior.

While in Utah, he is doing some podcasts with the Stick of Joseph folks in Orem; it shall be interesting to tune in. Avraham and I have similar goals. “Get the Word of the Lord out to as many as we can.”

Love Conquers All

Queen Sonja and King Harald V of Norway and their fascinating love story as he marries a “commoner.”

The movie, “The Commoner” tells their fascinating story and of their 8-year courtship. True love was their motivation to overcome the incredible challenges they faced. Indeed, Love conquers all. If everyone lived the two greatest commandments to love (Matt. 22:37-40), there would be no wars and their would be peace on earth good will to all humankind. Our environment wouldn’t be challenged because of everyone’s appreciation of all God’s beautiful creations. Their story changed the world.

Love is the first law of heaven and on earth, as can be proven from John 14:15,21. Love implies obedience (A implies B), and obedience implies love (B implies A). Hence, A and B are logically equivalent–raising the definition of obedience to a celestial level. We obey the commandments because of our pure love of God–wanting always to please Him.

So, we have this great love story as is shared in the movie, “The Commoner.” It is based on a true and amazing story. It documents an exciting landmark event for Norway and the world. The movie was released this year (2025) on Valentine’s Day. How appropriate is that!  Four one-hour episodes tell this amazing story, available on Amazon Prime. The acting and portrayal are very accurate and well done.

One of the main reasons America is great is because the Bible was the most important book for its founding documents. There we read, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) “And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.” (Deut. 6:5) Then the Savior gave us this powerful admonition, which clearly would stop all wars, “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;” (Matt. 5:44)

America’s Declaration of Independence profoundly states: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Our God given right to individual sovereignty is paramount.

India’s caste system, monarchy, and political circles fly in the face of each of our individual equality and significance as children of God. The story shared in the movie THE COMMONER magnifies the great importance of personal sovereignty and self-worth for the world.

Crown Prince of Norway

Crown Prince Harald of Norway met Sonja Haraldsen at a party in 1959. Sonja was considered a “commoner”. However, she was educated, elegant, and accomplished — but none of that mattered to traditionalists because she lacked a royal or noble title.
Her relationship with Harald wasn’t judged on love, compatibility, or character — but on lineage. That’s why the title The Commoner is so loaded.  It highlights how social class often trumps personal worth.

Prince Harald courted Sonja Haraldsen for eight years. The couple met significant opposition, primarily from royal leadership and political circles, but not from the general public. Harald’s father, King Olav V, was hesitant, not necessarily out of personal dislike. Due to constitutional and traditional concerns, royal marriages were expected to be with other royals or nobility. Government advisors and royal court officials feared that marrying a commoner might weaken the monarchy’s legitimacy or even destroy it. If Harald and Sonja were to marry, there was concern that breaking royal tradition could set a precedent or even destabilize the institution.

Royalty Is Not Just a Role

Being royal isn’t just a role; it’s historically treated as an unchangeable identity, passed by blood, not merit. For centuries, marrying outside of royalty or nobility was seen as weakening the “purity” or legitimacy of the royal line — much like how caste systems enforce social boundaries to maintain hierarchy.

By insisting on marrying for love, Crown Prince Harald rejected a centuries-old power structure. He wasn’t just choosing Sonja — he was challenging the very foundation of royal exclusivity. And he risked ending the monarchy altogether to do it. He told his father, “If I cannot marry Sonja, I shall remain unmarried!” You can imagine how King Olav felt about that.

What the Public Thought

Over time, the Norwegian public grew increasingly supportive of the couple. The long secrecy of their relationship made it a quiet public matter at first, but as the truth emerged, many saw Sonja as dignified, loyal, and admirable. The main tension was within the monarchy and political elite. Harald’s long resistance to tradition and Sonja’s patience helped them win over both camps.

The whole story taps into something ancient and uncomfortable: That your birth status could define your value, no matter your personal merits. This royal courtship drama put that tension on a global stage.

Sonja as the Queen of Norway

Their marriage had a significant cultural and social impact on Norway and on the world community. First commoner queen in Norway’s history — she redefined what it meant to be royal. She brought a modern, relatable tone to the monarchy. She became a working royal from day one — with real responsibilities, not just ceremonial duties. “Sonja helped bring the monarchy closer to the people,” said many commentators during her early years as queen.

She is an accomplished artist and photographer herself. Co-founded the Queen Sonja Print Award (est. 2011) — the world’s most prestigious prize for graphic artists. She has held her own art exhibitions in Norway and abroad. She has promoted Norwegian artists and culture internationally.

She is known for her love of hiking, skiing, and nature — she’s a passionate advocate for Norway’s outdoor heritage. She has written and photographed books on Norwegian landscapes and friluftsliv (outdoor life). Her example helped normalize female participation in rugged outdoor sports and reinforced Norway’s identity as a nature-loving country.

She is a patron of many causes, including: Mental health, Refugee support, Women’s rights, and Education and literacy. She frequently visits hospitals, schools, and care centers — often without press, doing quiet, consistent public service.


Loving Godly Service Today

Earlier this year, Jordan Peterson did an hour-and-a-half-long podcast with Charlie Kirk. Jordan explored in detail Charlie’s motivation for his work with TurningPointUSA. They brought up and discussed in detail the life of William Wilberforce.  William—giving his life to God—was amazingly successful in eliminating the slave trade in the UK in 1803. In honor of him and his work, Parliament eliminated slavery in 1833, just three days before William died. The movie AMAZING GRACE does a great job of telling William’s story.

Similarly, Charlie Kirk, giving his life to God, has changed the world for good with his martyrdom on the  10th of September this year (2025). His loving demeanor has impacted the whole world for good.

Loving Service gives no Limit for the Good we can do

I believe the Lord gave me the following poem:

“There is no limit to the good we can do,

If we but look to heaven to guide us through;

From our heavenly home, we learned of its creeds,

To bless God’s offspring with our thoughts, words, and deeds.”


I believe Queen Sonja Haraldsen, wife of King Harald V, is a great example of loving service, and they are still with us at age 88. Their long and stable marriage — over 57 years — has been a symbol of stability and continuity and loving godly service for Norway—blessing the lives of countless Norwegians and the world for those who know the amazing story of “The Commoner.”

I pray that we may all focus on giving loving service with an eye single to the glory of God.

What is the Key to Health? There are many answers promoted from many platforms that try to answer that important question. Dr. Sabine Hazan's findings show that the key to health is in the gut. Her findings are convincing.

Dr. Sabine Hazan is the world’s expert on curing disease by going to the gut and in the cutting-edge science in microbiome research. Brain Cell and Gut Health

For me, it is particularly interesting because scientists over the years have discovered brain cells in the heart and the gut.  They have always been in the scriptures as the Lord references on many occasions about the “thoughts of the heart,” and His “bowels” are filled with “mercy” that He may “succor his people.” This remarkable connection between the brain cells in the mind, the heart, and the gut gives us our full range of emotions needed during our mortal journey, and for us to have joy in our path to godhood

Give Our Hearts to God

When we are motivated by the pure love of Christ, then we choose with our brain to give our hearts to God, and to let our “bowels” be full of charity toward all men. We let our “hearts be full, drawn out in prayer unto him continually for [our] welfare, also for the welfare of those who are around [us].

” We let ‘virtue garnish our thoughts unceasingly,” and our bowels are full of charity toward all men and to the household of faith, then the Holy Ghost will be our constant companion. In so doing, we move in the direction of the heavenly society called Zion. Think To Grow The Brain

Just like the body needs to be exercised, so does the brain. Back in the 1960s, Professor Marion Diamond’s classic book, ” Magid Trees of the Mind,”  demonstrated that we can grow neurons in the brain at any age. Thinking independently does that. Diamond’s work was so significant that they let her do the autopsy on Einstein’s brain.

Think Think Think

Nathan Eldon Tanner lived in Canada and became an apostle in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a child, he went to school in a one-room schoolhouse. The teacher for all the grades began the year by saying, “You only need to learn three things this year.” Then he wrote on the blackboard, “THINK, THINK, THINK.” (By the way, our youngest son was given the name Nathan because of the great role model of Nathan Eldon Tanner).

Emeritus Professor of Philosophy, Chauncey C. Riddle, has written a classic book entitled THINK INDEPENDENTLY. The best class I had in college was his Philosophy of Religion class, which taught us how to think. I am blessed that he has written the foreword for three of my books. We have become best friends over the years, and his brilliant mind knows how to THINK, which has been such a blessing to me.

Mind Exercise Ideas

While excess stress and oils containing linoleic acid kill neurons in the brain, daily mental exercises will grow neurons.

1. You can pick mental exercises that cause you to think that best suit your liking and your living situation.
Scripture memorization and/or study is a great way that exercise the spirit and the mind—bringing peace to the soul.

2. I see God’s Word to be of infinite depth. I also see His Word not just being the scripture cannon, for as Alma shares, “For behold, the Lord doth grant unto all nations, of their own nation and tongue, to teach his word, yea, in wisdom, all that he seeth fit that they should have; therefore we see that the Lord doth counsel in wisdom, according to that which is just and true.” (Alma 29:8) We can learn from all nations and cultures. One of the great blessings as an atomic-clock physicist has been my opportunity to travel the globe visiting other atomic clock facilities. I have taken the opportunity in doing so to study those cultures and their religions.

3. Then there is His Word coming to us by personal revelation; I seek that every day for we have His promise in Mathew. 7:7-8: “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” And His promises are sure.

4. One may think of cross-word puzzles as a good mental exercise, and that is good, but limited in its reach. Reading and learning from the Lord and His Word and from others are my main sources.

5. My personal joke is to learn faster than I forget! I also do a few SUDOKU puzzles per day, and I don’t use a pencil but a pen, requiring me to keep track of all the numbers across the puzzle along with logic considerations as to where a number should be placed to fill in all the blanks.

6. I buy a “BIG SUDUKO BOOK 1,000 medium to hard” puzzles–available from Amazon. I also take the time for fun mental exercises to determine the factors for that particular puzzle’s number. For example, No. 360 = 2^3, 3^2, 5. If the number is a prime, then I look up its logarithm value, memorize it, and then write it in the book as a memory exercise. I have a mathematical table of the prime numbers to seven significant digits.

More Mind Exercise Ideas

7. God is the Master of all good disciplines—including math. Jesus asks us to be perfect like our Heavenly Father is perfect (Matt. 5:48), which includes math! Math can be and is fun. The Allan variance, for example, is the analysis of a set of numbers in a data set and determining the different colors of the variations in the data set that occur in nature and in devices we build. My other personal joke is, “The only thing that is constant is change!” Enjoy the ride; there are always waves and or bumps along the way. We can ask the Lord, “What can I learn from the challenge?”

8. In Professor Marion Diamond’s classic book, she shares that there are seven learning centers in the brain, and they are complementary, and I have added my perspectives as well. They are: 1) language, 2) math and logic, 3) spatial representation (3D), 4) (beautiful) music, 5) physical skills, 6) interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, and 7) knowledge and learning of the grand harmony of nature—bringing you closer to the Creator.

9. For example, riding my bike combines 5) and 7) and is also an excellent eye-exercising opportunity. I listen to the Book of Mormon in French, and that combines 1) and 5). If one does crossword puzzles or Sudoku while listening to beautiful music, then that helps augment memory as well.

10. There is a well-known Mozart effect that was developed in Boulder, Colorado, several years ago and shown to be effective. For example, if one is learning calculus while listening to Mozart, then the retention increases. Our oldest son, Sterling, wanted to memorize Isaiah 52, and he composed it to music. He did the first half back in 1993, and twenty years later, he shared that composition with us. His retention was perfect.

11. For those who can play the piano, Terri Pontius gave me a great suggestion. Sight-reading pulls the right and left sides of the brain and is a great brain building exercise. On sight singing music would have the same benefits. For those who can’t read music, if they hear a song they like and then sing it, neurons will grow in their brains, and they will be blessed as well.

12. Dr. Dharma Shing Khalsa recommends at least a couple of hours each day doing some form of mental exercise. This is especially valuable for older people. He says that, “Studies have shown that when people do engage in moderate pleasant forms of mental exercise, it increases not only their knowledge, but also the efficiency and power of their brains.” The best retention occurs when there is cross-fertilization among these seven areas of the brain. Wisdom also grows with age, being helped by doing mental exercises.

13. While we are growing neurons in the brain, let us avoid those things that kill them. Again, that is excess stress and processed foods using linoleic acid. I wrote a blog article discussing that in detail: Don’t Kill Your Neurons. I highly recommend you read it if you haven’t.

Sharing His Truth

The blessings of thinking on the Lord’s Word are love, joy, and peace to the soul. As we do so, Light and the Truths of God are our reward. Then, as we lovingly share His Truths with others, we are doubly blessed. And the magic is that as you do these exercises for your brain you can sense new neuron growth.

In the ideal ZION society, which is coming soon, we lovingly share our individual thoughts, words, and deeds, which are unique to each of us, to bring about a Oneness with the Lord. “And the Lord called his people ZION, because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness; and there was no poor among them.” (Moses 7:18)  “Therefore, verily, thus saith the Lord, let Zion rejoice, for this is Zion—THE PURE IN HEART; therefore, let Zion rejoice, while all the wicked shall mourn.” (D&C 97:21)

I Believe In Miracles

I believe in a God of miracles. As we look to the future, we will see many more. I love sharing the documented miracles that irrefutably show God’s ever-loving care in our lives. I will share three well-documented miracles in this blog post. But the last one of the three, The Great Alaska Race, touched me heart, as I recently learned about this amazing miraculous story.

The Cockville Miracle

The Cockville Miracle is an amazing and well-documented event showing the miraculous saving of all the elementary school children and their teachers.

On May 16, 1986, in Cokeville, Wyoming, a “crazy man” tried to collect an enormous ransom by threatening to blow up both teachers and children in the school if they didn’t comply with his demands. However, the homemade gasoline bomb blew up by mistake, and the man and his wife perished instead. All the children and teachers miraculously survived.

Many of the children and teachers later shared remarkable and consistent accounts of the event. Witnesses attributed the event to divine intervention. They reported that angels and bright glowing figures appeared. Some said the figures that came looked like their deceased relatives. They came to comfort and protect them. There is a well-made movie, Cokeville Miracle, documenting this miraculous story.  It is one of the most striking modern-day accounts of divine intervention.

Scientific Confirmation

As a scientist, I was particularly intrigued by how they described the angels surrounding the explosion and focusing the destructive energy up and away from the children. For me, it was consistent with the diallel-field lines we documented in our unified field theory (UFT) research that the angels were able to use to protect the children. In our UFT research, we established the existence of diallel-field lines and some of their properties.  And we showed the existence of a fifth dimension beyond Einstein’s four dimensions of relativity.

That fifth-dimension couples us into the Eternity Domain, where God and His angels do their marvelous work. Scientists use the five known human senses in their experimentation. The sixth sense moves us into the Eternity Domain, which is what we access when we pray. All the Cockville folks were praying, and the angels were there for them.

The Mary Owen Miracle

A second well-documented miracle is about our granddaughter, Mary Owen. Due to a falling accident, she spent six days and six nights in the snow on Mt. Hood in March 2013. She was found in direct answer to prayer and with unusual-angelic assistance to make her location known. Now, she and her husband, Ben Grimm, and their four beautiful children are missionaries for the Lord.

The Nome, Alaska Miracle

The third well-documented miracle is the Nome, Alaska Miracle. Nome is just 2 degrees below the Arctic Circle. It was basically locked in for the winter back when this miracle occurred. The amazing series of events happened in January 1925. There was a diphtheria outbreak in the community of Nome, Alaska.

They reached out immediately to cities along the Pacific coast for the needed anti-toxin serum. The best way to get the serum to Nome was from Anchorage, a thousand miles away. It is about 3,000 miles across the continental United States from ocean to ocean. Blizzard conditions made the delivery of a life-saving serum by airplane from Anchorage impossible.

They needed to keep the serum from freezing. As soon as they got the serum, they carried it by train, plowing through the deep snow on its way north 298 miles to Nenana.
Think of the details of doing the following across Alaska’s deep winter snows and storms.

They miraculously organized dog sled teams to take the serum west 674 miles the rest of the way to Nome. With no time to waste, they immediately found 20 strong men (Mushers) with dogsleds to accomplish this horrendous task, risking their lives because the temperatures dipped down to below -40 degrees F. This is in the middle of Alaska, with winter storms raging with blizzard and gale-force winds.

The serum was handed off seamlessly and miraculously all the way. 120 dogs were involved, and some of them died because of temperatures below -40o caused their lungs to freeze. The community of Nome was saved miraculously.

The dogsled part was done in 5 ½ days, averaging more than 120 miles per day in unfathomable conditions.

Here is a list of the remarkable men who became available along the rest of the 674 miles, who, risking their lives, volunteered to help save the community of Nome.

Gunnar Kaasen takes over for the final push. Kaasen & Balto run through the night in whiteout blizzard conditions. They covered 55 miles in the final dash to Nome—arriving February 2, 1925, 5:30 a.m.

A truly documented miracle. The faith and prayers of a lot of good people were answered, as our infinitely loving Lord does.

The movie, The Great Alaskan Race, tells the story of Seppala and Togo. Togo was the biggest hero but one of the smallest dogs, and at age 12 for a dog, he had given his all, and Togo’s sixth sense brought them to their destination and saved the day. There is a great book called TOGO, by Robert J. Blake, that tells Togo’s story.

Disney made a movie called Togo documenting this miracle, but they have taken it down. Why?

90th Trip Around the Sun

As I approach my 90th trip around the sun, I marvel not at my own strength, but at the goodness of God who sustains me. Even now, I can still ride a mountain bike, climb hills, and feel the wind on my face. I’ve been told that I am the oldest man in Fountain Green. We have lived here now for 33 years.

Every breath, every heartbeat, and every new sunrise and sunset is His gift. Though much of my life’s work has been dedicated to the science of timekeeping, I know that time and eternity are in God’s hands.

My New Book

I am hoping as I approach my 90th trip around the sun, that my new book will help the world in a major way to get out of darkness and enjoy the TRUTHs and LIGHT and UNDERSATANDING of God’S Infinite Atonement. The new book is entitled: “The Infinite Atonement of Jesus the Christ and Last Days Significance – A Scientist’s View”. 

I know that the most important event in history is the Infinite Atonement of Jesus the Christ, and the least understood.

I am pleased that the front cover of this new book is being drawn by an outstanding artist, David Lindsley. You can see his wonderful artwork at DavidLindsley.com. The cover will depict Mary when she sees her resurrected Son, the Son of God, in all his glory with countless thousands who were resurrected that most momentous Easter Morning. This most inspiring scene is described in the Gospel of Arimathea, which was written before the four gospels.

David Hocking has agreed to do the formatting with glorious pictures to help tell the story and share my testimony of the great importance of the Infinite Atonement. David Hocking has annotated and edited seven books, which have contributed more to sacred literature in our time than any others. I hope mine helps as well. It is my eighth book.

I was pleased that my name was at the top of the list. I give the glory to God; He inspired my work.
