Who are the Gentiles?

To the Jews, they are all who are not Jewish.  To the Mormons, they are all who are not Mormon outside of the Jews and the scattered tribes of Israel.  The term gentile is used to describe “outsiders”, or outside of the covenant.

Who are the covenant people cited in the scriptures? The covenant people are generally considered “The House of Israel”, those who came from the loins of Jacob and have been scattered.  However, the Prophet Joseph Smith states that there are many nations who are considered gentiles, including those who came to settle the United States, even though they may be from the House of Israel.  He also states the Mormons are identified with the Gentiles. D&C 109:60. Covenant people are  simply those who keep their covenants and trust in the Lord and not the arm of flesh (Psalms 118:8).

Remarkable Angel Assistance Stories

One of the many ways God talks to us

Angel Assistance is a gift our Father in Heaven provides for his children on this earth. In fact, the word angel means “messenger” or “agent”.  Helping Angels are God’s agents who provided protection, give us direction, deliver messages, and serve us in very personal ways according to our righteous desires and needs.

Protection: Psalm 91: 11 – “For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways”.  For example, an angel was sent to Daniel in the lions’ den to shut the mouths of the lions. Daniel 6:11-14.

Direction: Exodus 23:20 – When the children of Israel left Egypt the Lord said, “Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.

Messages: In Genesis 18, God sent messengers to Abraham and Sarah to tell them she would bear a son. Gabriel was sent to Mary to tell her that she would give birth to the Son of God.  One of our daughters was visited by our grandson telling her he wanted to be born.   Angels speak the words of Christ to us, and as we ask, they will tell us “all things what you should do.” (2 Nephi 32:3)

Mormon Sugar Consumption

Sugar consumption in Utah has increased to epidemic levels. More than 60 percent of Utahans are Mormon, who generally refrain from coffee, tea, alcohol and tobacco. However, sugar treats are an acceptable, an ever-present component at family and LDS church gatherings. According to Bloomberg, a research company, Utah is known now as the “Sweet Tooth Capital of the United States,” consuming twice as much candy than any other state in America.

Sugar-Laced Soda

If  BYU is any indicator of Soda consumption within the predominate LDS populace, Mormons rank very high in consuming sugary soda as well. As stated in the Daily Universe, the school’s newspaper, “Culturally it is almost a fad to be drinking soda constantly within the LDS demographic.”

More than a dozen soda shops have opened in Utah County since 2013. On a weekday in July, Swig, successful soda shop served 838 customers.

Perhaps you have heard the bad joke; the way to tell a Mormon from a non-Mormon is by the temperature of their caffeine.

David W Allan – IEEE Joseph F. Keithley Award

David W AllanLast Wednesday, 23 May 2018, David W. Allan received the IEEE Joseph F. Keithley Award in Instrumentation and Measurement at the International Frequency  Control Symposium in Squaw Creek, CA.  The citation read, “for leadership in time determination and precise timing instruments.”

Atomic Clocks

Keeping time, or more precisely, keeping accurate time, has been the focus of David W. Allan’s career. He developed a device to automatically remove systematic timing errors from quartz-crystal oscillators used for generating the United States’ official time. He also created a dual-mixer time-difference measurement system with sub-pico-second precision for comparing atomic clocks.

GPS Receiver

His group developed a GPS common-view timing receiver, which has been used to transfer time from timing centers around the world to the International Bureau of Weights and Measures for generating coordinated universal time (UTC) as the world’s official time. This receiver was also used in synchronizing the NASA/JPL Deep Space Network high precision clocks.  His “smart-clock” method for enhancing GPS civil signals has been instrumental in synchronizing cell phone towers. The Allan Variance, Modified Allan Variance, and the Time Variance, which he developed, have become international standards for designing and constructing time and frequency equipment for systems like GPS, navigation, and telecommunication.

Healing Shoulder Pain

It is surprising how many individuals are unaware that healing shoulder pain is possible. It is ironic that when I wrote the blog article How to Avoid Joint Pain”, I subsequently developed pain in my left shoulder, and I had been exercising consistently, so I wondered why?

Seeking an answer to my question, “Why”?

I went back and reviewed Dr. John M. Kirsch’s book, “SHOULDER PAIN? The Solution & Prevention.”  Dr. Williams suggested from Dr. Kirsch’s work, hang from a chin-up bar for 30 seconds three times a week. Paying closer attention to details related to my problem, I found some additional important answers to my shoulder pain problem.

A Miracle In Houston

Believe in MiraclesI believe in miracles but have never experienced one so profoundly clear as I did this past week.

Last Monday, (14 May 2018) I had a stroke. I was packing the truck getting ready to go to the airport to give an invited talk in Houston in conjunction with the 2018 IEEE Keithley Award.  Our neighbor, Natalie Wright, who had been visiting us, could tell something was wrong, and said, “Dave, are you alright?”  I had dropped my keys to the ground and had trouble picking them up and my speech was slurred.  She immediate called her husband, Kevin, who was home, to come over.  He is a State Highway Patrol Sargeant, and he knew what to do.

The Firm Foundation Expo – Layton – David W Allan

Where we are in God’s TIME

When I learned in January that I was to speak at the Firm Foundation EXPO in Layton, Utah in April, I went into prayer: “Heavenly Father, you know who will be there for my talk and I don’t.  Please help me prepare that which will best help them to come to know Thee and Thy Beloved Son.”  The Lord answered my prayer, as I had several people come to me after my talk deeply touched by what I had shared.

One lady from Spain told me that she had lost her faith and came to the conference hoping to get it back, and that my talk was what she had hoped to find.  I rejoice to help the Lord in this most important work of helping His children come to know Him and to be on that path that leads to the greatest of happiness in this life and a fullness of joy in the life to come.

Planting Seeds and a Fullness of Joy

You have heard, “You can count the seeds in an apple, but you cannot count the apples in a seed!”  Implicit in this statement is the infinite nature of the universe.  In the spring we plant our seeds in the garden and then after nourishing them and watering them we observe the miracle as they produce perhaps 100-fold after their own kind.

Like the parable of the mustard seed, we plant seeds of faith, and as they are nourished we grow in understanding of God’s marvelous ways, of His infinite love, of His Son’s infinite atonement, which gives full purpose to all of humanity and a hope for a fullness of joy in the eternities.

A husband and wife have the sacred privilege of planting seeds and having precious children in a healthy, happy, family setting.  We come to understand that the family is the most important unit in time and eternity, that family is the order in heaven, and that we can be an eternal family and receive a fullness of joy.  Hence, God has asked us to call Him, Father in Heaven.

David W Allan – The Allan Variance

The Allan Variance is perhaps the most famous of David W. Allan’s achievements, with its derivative for telecom:  TDEV, the Time Deviation.

In 1965, Mr. Allan’s Master’s thesis gave birth to what the world knows as the Allan variance, the efficient technique for characterizing the performance of clocks and for knowing how to optimally use them in time keeping, and for which he is best known.   Because the Allan variance is used in characterizing the performance of atomic clocks, it was used extensively to sort out the performance of atomic clocks used for GPS to meet the stringent specifications for that navigation and timing system.

World Recognition

David Allan is as well recognized in the field of time and frequency technology as any other figure in the world. He helped to develop our nation’s official time and frequency standards based on atomic clocks and wrote the algorithm for keeping time for the United States.  He spent many man-years helping in the actual development of GPS. He also helped other nations with their official time standards, as well as helping with International Atomic Time and Universal Time Coordinated (UTC), which is official time for the world as kept at the BIPM (International Bureau of Weights and Measures) in Paris.
